We had the good fortune of connecting with Jatoria Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jatoria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Since elementary school, I have always enjoyed recreational writing. I participated in several school writing contests and received many writing awards, but it never crossed my mind to take writing seriously. It was not until I entered high school that my advanced writing skills were brought to my attention. I conducted several literary pieces for my high school crush. He would receive A’s and B’s on almost every assignment I worked on. He would tip me as a token of appreciation. I then thought to myself, that I should start taking this seriously and promoting my writing services to the public… which I ended up doing during my freshman year of college.

Budgeting and I have a love-hate relationship. I do not like the word “budget” as it sounds confining, similar to the word “dietary regimen.” This topic is not my favorite to converse about primarily because the word functions off willpower. Budgeting is not long-term and can change due to various circumstances. Moreover, having good financial habits means living within or below your means.

I feel as if I have my priorities right, so it doesn’t really matter where my money goes.

I highly recommend saving, but if I spend too much I always tell myself to make it back times two. When you have a hustle mentality the money goes right where it needs to.

In the next 2 years, I see myself becoming a professor. I want to teach individuals the basics of communication and writing. Additionally, by the end of my career, I know I will be a successful author/publisher.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What makes me distinct from others is that I do not put on a facade. I promote living a regular life despite my career and my side hustles. Most professionals act as if their career is their life, but I do not agree with that. I can have a good career and still engage in what I love and enjoy. As of today, I am 23 years old. I graduated high school at 18 and graduated from Savannah State University at the age of 20. I work a 9-5 as a high school teacher, a full-time self-employed PR (Public Relations) Specialist, and I am a self-employed ghostwriter (who develops essays, resumes, screenplays, grants, etc.)

With all that I do, I’m still a human who does not always have it all together. I fuck up, I have bad days, and some days I don’t feel like showing up. I present this to my target audience daily to highlight that it’s okay to be authentic. I am uniquely me.

I’m most excited about publishing my first novel. I don’t want to reveal too much but I can say this… the novel is full of suspenseful and dark humor.

I’ve accomplished a lot in such little time by grinding. There is no cheat code to life and there is no such thing as an easy route, there is always a hidden obstacle in anything you endure.

3 lessons I’ve learned

1. Remain humble because it can always be you.

2. You must read and observe because if you don’t you will miss out on the main idea and context clues.

3. Silence is beautiful

I want the world to know that writing is not just a job to me; it is art, and my artwork will soon be presented on big screens. I also recommend anyone who is having trouble searching for a job/career or needs a writing service to email an inquiry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t have any specific areas because I like to explore new things everyday.

I will say this.
Atlanta has several hidden gems for those who enjoy remote work friendly areas as much as I do and catch a little drinky drink.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First,
I want to shout out my Grandad for guiding me throughout life, getting in my ass about attending college, and lastly emphasizing that it is vital to find a purpose in life.

My second shoutout goes to my mother.
I’d like to thank her for creating me and blessing me with her hustle mentality. I’ve watched this lady grind her entire life. No excuses. No handouts. No complaints. Just straight hustle.

Last but not least,
I’d like to shout out my college professor Dr. Theo Plothe. If it wasn’t for him I would not have obtained half of the writing and communications skills that I have today. His lessons not only helped me graduate college but also allowed me to apply everything I learned real world.
