We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasma Starks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasma, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity is the air I breathe! Why do I say this? Because I serve a God who created the universe. He is a creative God. He is the God who creates, and because He creates. He created me to create. I have the power to create anything. The imagination takes away from any idea being impossible to manifest. My creative DNA allows me to be the authentic me. My creative career was birthed through journaling, writing, and publishing. Writing & Publishing is one of the most rewarding creative careers I have had the privilege to experience and navigate through in the last seven years. I am currently a writing and publishing coach. I help individuals develop, write, and publish life-changing stories. The process is creative from start to finish, and nothing brings me more joy than seeing a client hold a finished book in their hand. I pursued this career because I love helping people produce life-altering stories; it’s about getting the story out of idea form to physical form. Books change the trajectory of people’s lives, and I am elated to be a part of the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Writing is definitely an art; it’s one that I have enjoyed for a long time. God has given me the ability to see, create, and develop stories touching the reader’s heart. I have learned over the years that writing is a tool for healing, education, and celebration. I am more of a creative writer. It allows me to write outside the box of normal. I can tell a story from my past, present, or what’s to come. There is always an aim for my writing. I never write aimlessly. When the pen hits the paper, the words have a purpose.

I am a prophetic writer, which sets me apart from most. I am one that is led by the Holy Spirit to write what He instructs me. My gift has definitely made room for me. I am a Prophetic Writing Coach. I am a midwife, for those who are carrying a story that they need to birth into the Earth. I am set apart because I will never separate God from my business. I need Him, and the people I serve need Him. The people I coach and serve don’t want to hear from me. They want to hear from the God in me. I am a vessel, and I love being used by God.

I am most proud of the finished products birthed from my seminars, coaching sessions, and publishing projects. It is evident that my process works. It may not work for everyone, but it works for those assigned to my voice.

I am where I am today because I did it afraid; it took practice and grace from those I have worked for. There were many times I wanted to quit because I was frustrated with the process. My prices were under the market, and most times, it seemed like I was doing projects for free. Yet, I was determined to learn the writing and publishing process to produce books with excellence.

I was determined to overcome every challenge with education, practice, and prayer. I have learned many things along the way, such as learning my craft, being the best, knowing I am the best, don’t compare myself to others. We are all unique in nature and have gifts to share with the world. A huge one for me was knowing that I don’t have to work with everyone. I am not called to work with everyone, and I can choose. Lastly, I have learned to set my prices to what I am worth. I am worth it!

Writing is an art that many love. I am here in the literary world to help others birth stories of purpose. Ask my clients, if they have an idea, a book, journal, devotional, or eBook is soon to follow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s time; my best friend is visiting me in Greenville, SC. The Green City is what I call it.

First, we are going to Falls Park on the Reedy to experience the waterfall views, bridges, and acres of gardens. Then, we are definitely experiencing the mountains and the trails throughout the city and surrounding areas.

We are taking a couple of days to visit the beach outside Greenville in Isle of Palms, located in Charleston, SC.

Back to Greenville to see The Peace Center, the Liberty Bridge, and Paris Mountian State Park.

We are definitely hanging out downtown to view the scenery.

It’s time to eat, and the first stop is barbeque. We are going to Moe’s Original BBQ; sliced Turkey is a hit.

Breakfast spots, of course, we are hitting up Waffle House, Another Broken Egg, First Watch, and Maple Street Biscuit.

Lunch spots include World Piece Pizza, The Lost Cajun. Grill Marks, and Corelife Eatery.

Dinner includes Yard House, The Bohemian Cafe, Califonia Dreaming, and Halls Chophouse.

I can’t forget the ice cream! Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and Clare’s Creamery.

Last but not least. We are stopping at Redemption East to experience one of the best ministries in the world.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Catrice Jackson. Catrice was my writing coach and helped me write my first book. She unlocked the gift inside of me to write and help others write. She encouraged and always reminded me to be me no matter what others say. She has taught me to write authentically and change the lives of others while doing it. Catrice pushed me, held me accountable, and would not let me quit until I finished my book, Purpose will Prevail: Principles to Activate and Walk in Your Divine Purpose. Catrice is the CEO & Global Visionary Leader at Catriceology. She is a Speaker and Best-Selling Author.

Lastly, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Ray Starks. He pushes me consistently to win. He supports every idea. He is my rock through it all. I love you, honey.
