We had the good fortune of connecting with Janie Sloan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued this type of career because it was always my dream. As a kid I pictured myself being an actress, but I never pictured myself writing and directing my own films. It was God’s Grace that allowed me to expand my dreams. And now my first feature film “Take A Stan” has received a distribution deal. This exciting news is the reason I’m glad I decided to pursue this career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer, director and actress. I am also a believer of God and my films reflects that. Tenacity got me to where I am today. Something you need to have in this field considering the fact that it’s a very difficult industry to enter. The challenge was finances. You need finances to have a cast and crew, especially a crew. You can get actors that are new to work for experience alone, but when you don’t have a crew you have to wear a ton of hats., while working with limited equipment. But when it’s your passion, you learn to adapt. What sets me apart from others is that my Christian based films are hardcore, to reach the “hard to reach crowd.” My films are not aimed to tell people which religion to serve they are aimed to give the audience an understanding on why bad things happen and why God created the laws and how he use our bad behavior and disobedience to get the glory out of our lives. My films are very mixed in emotions but will always be known for its message and happy endings, and that is what I want the world to know about me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well where I’m from, which is Durham NC, and a friend came to visit, the places to eat and hangout is very limited, but I will say we are developing into quite an attraction city. But I will prepare for their visit by maybe purchasing tickets to a show or play at the DPAC. Then we will probably do something like hop on the rental scooters and ride through downtown where it has been totally remodel and film with tons of restaurants and exciting people and hang out spots. One of my favorite places to eat is Dames Chicken and waffles, so I will definitely take them there. On the days where we just relax I would order them some Double fried chickens wings from Chicken Bee. Other than that I am a home body so I’m more of a cook for company and watch movies, type of gal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is to my husband Rashun Sloan, for always being my biggest supporter and fan. When I first decided I wanted to pursue a career in entertainment he always gave me encouraging words to motivate me especially during times where it’ felt like things were not going to happen for me. He is also there when I need an actor to complete projects. And he does a great job😁.
