We had the good fortune of connecting with Janay Famous and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janay, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because it is what fits my personality the best. I’ve worked for corporate for many years and I always felt like I was in a box, doing the same thing every day and not able to be my true self or express myself in the way that I truly wanted to. I am naturally a social butterfly and an extrovert so I love people I love doing different things I love being spontaneous and I can do that and be all those things through my artistry..

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Professional Makeup Artist for 14 years. I’ve always had a passion for makeup and the artistry behind it and I absolutely love the feeling it gives my clients. I’m most proud of myself for taking a chance on this career path and believing in myself enough to take the leap of faith and leave the corporate world to get serious about becoming a makeup artist. I worked in the corporate world for a very long time where I always felt very stagnant and trapped and I was just unhappy. I knew that there was something greater for me out there and when I realized it, nothing could stop my vision of becoming one of the best makeup artists ever! I’m still on that path/journey and loving every minute of it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I’m still pretty new to Atlanta, 3 years (I’m a California native). I am still learning the city. But hands-down I always take my relatives when they visit to Tiki tango on Sundays I always let them know they have to stay until Monday because flip-flop Sundays is the place to be! The Whiskey Mistress on a Thursday is always a vibe. We absolutely have to get a bite to eat at Roc South and Slutty vegan (mandatory). To be honest we still explore the city together because like I said before I’m still pretty new.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I would like to shout out Nakia Vaughn, without her recommending me this interview wouldn’t even be possible. She has been one of the biggest supporters in my corner, genuinely wanting to see me elevate. She’s also one of the dopest hairstylist I know, hands-down! I also wanna give a Huge shout out to my entire family and close friends I am actually really blessed to have such an amazing support system behind me! And most importantly my daughter who is the motivation behind everything I do!
