We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana Burnette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jana, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The Actor’s Code was founded to support aspiring actors and artists in understanding the entertainment business. What began as a hobby grew into a company due to increasing demand.

The social impact lies in recognizing the significance of entertainment. It offers solace and enlightenment during difficult times. Entertainment isn’t just about joy; it’s a means for people to escape, learn, and broaden their horizons. It subtly conveys ideas, encouraging viewers to think without imposing a viewpoint. The impact of the arts and entertainment is profound. Throughout history, art has driven cultural change and shaped the collective consciousness of societies. It serves as a reflection of the Zeitgeist and has the power to inspire, challenge, and unite people.

Throughout history, the arts have driven cultural change and shaped societies. The entertainment industry is set to grow significantly. The Actor’s Code helps aspiring artists navigate this field, enriching our cultural landscape and fostering a sense of community.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Actor’s Code was born out of a personal need to help aspiring actors, initially as a hobby. I had always aspired to be an actor myself, with a strong focus on musical theater and Broadway. However, the key lesson I’ve learned and pass on to my students is the importance of flexibility in one’s goals. While having a clear vision is crucial, being open to natural evolution is equally important, as the journey is rarely straightforward.

The challenges in building this business have been numerous. I’ve encountered heartbreak when plans changed, projects stalled, and things didn’t go according to my initial vision. However, every challenge has presented an opportunity to grow and strengthen the foundation of the business. This is a message I impart to the actors I work with – difficulties and setbacks are part of the journey and contribute to personal and professional development.

Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all program, I strive to keep my coaching as personalized as possible. Each actor is unique, and I believe in the power of discovering what makes them special and different. This approach is what led to the creation of The Actor’s Code. I’ve combined my knowledge of acting and marketing with my diverse life experiences, training, mentorships, and expertise in various fields, including business, marketing, messaging, technology, and communication.

My belief is that every life experience, prior career, or skill acquired adds to an actor’s brand and unique selling points. The Actor’s Code is a business that empowers actors by leveraging my expertise in business, marketing, and personal development to help them discover and market their individuality.

In essence, The Actor’s Code is not just about acting; it’s about harnessing life experiences to create a unique and powerful brand in the world of entertainment. I aim to provide actors with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of the industry, market themselves effectively, and embrace the opportunities that come their way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to Atlanta for a week, we’d embark on a fantastic adventure exploring this vibrant city. Our itinerary would include a mix of cultural experiences and culinary delights.

First, we’d kick off our trip with a visit to the iconic Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola to immerse ourselves in marine life and learn about the history of the world’s favorite soft drink. We’d also make sure to spend some time in the Centennial Olympic Park, perhaps catching an outdoor event.

Next, we’d dive into history with a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, where we’d gain insights into the civil rights movement. We’d explore the Beltline for its street art and culinary options and savor Southern cuisine at local restaurants. Our adventures would continue with trips to cultural hubs like the High Museum of Art and the Atlanta History Center, followed by a day at the Georgia Zoo to enjoy wildlife. We’d also savor the city’s theater scene with visits to the Alliance Theatre and the Shakespeare Tavern. To round off our visit, we’d take a leisurely stroll through the historic Oakland Cemetery and enjoy a farewell dinner at a restaurant serving classic Southern comfort food. Atlanta has a lot to offer, and we’d make sure our friend experiences the best it has to offer during their visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s challenging to single out one person or entity when recognizing those who have contributed to my journey. Success is the culmination of numerous people, experiences, and learning moments.

Today, I’d like to give a special shout-out to John Callas, a producing partner with whom I’m collaborating on two feature films. John’s remarkable background in the entertainment industry as a director, Emmy-nominated producer, and award-winning writer, along with his humility and genuine willingness to support others, makes him stand out. He has decades of experience working with stars and the industry’s largest production companies, yet he’s always so down-to-earth and real during our conversations. We initially crossed paths while exploring a different project, and despite being miles apart, we meet weekly to work on our shared goals, movies, and personal growth.

Having someone like John consistently push you toward your professional aspirations while sharing their own experiences and acknowledging the broader aspects of life is invaluable. He’s been an incredible mentor over the past year, and I’m excited about our future collaboration. Stay tuned because you’ll likely hear more about our work in the future.
