We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, how do you think about risk?
I believe in order for a person to grow, you have to take risks. There is great reward and success on the other side of your comfort zone. One of the ways that I know I am taking a risk in something is when I feel completely uncomfortable and anxious in that moment. As I grow in my business and career, I am putting myself in more positions to feel those feelings because I know that is the only way I can get to the goals I have set. So far, taking risks has helped me on a business and personal level. Within the last year, I have hired a productivity coach to help guide me through my business as a Realtor. I think that no matter what level we reach in life, there will always be something new to learn so I am forever open to extra help. Also, being a student in college along with having an outside career can have its challenges but since then it has birthed a new business venture for me that I am really excited about.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think most people may know me from being a Realtor but many may not know that I’ve been pursing my Bachelors degree in Arts for the past 3 years. My grandmother was a very skilled artist and was actually recruited by the late Charlie Brown creator, Charles Schulz. I would say that’s where my love for drawing came from. Growing up, I always enjoyed drawing and it’s something that just carried into my adult life. I transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2017 and have enjoyed my learning experience there since. I am surrounded by soo many talented artists that it can get intimidating at times but I just remind myself that we are all gifted in some way, which is why we are here. To be more specific, my study is in Interior Design. Practicing real estate is something I do on a daily basis and is fun but actually getting to learn about the history of art and architecture is soo pleasing to me. I started my interior decor shop, Eimaj Interiors, in 2017 and am excited to see where it takes me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm this is a hard one. Atlanta has soo much to offer but if we were focused on activities in the city, I would suggest a day on the Beltline and a visit to Ponce City Market. PCM has some great shops and restaurants plus the rooftop bar and games would definitely be one to experience. I also love Atlanta for it’s historic past so making a trip to these monuments would be fun. The High Museum of Art is also one of my favorites!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother. That may be soo cliche to say but I honestly don’t know where I would be without her. Along with my late grandfather. He inspired me soo much. I always remember him telling me to “not stress out on things you cannot control”. That has been my blueprint for my life and has given me such peace in difficult times.
