We had the good fortune of connecting with James Connelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew there had to be a better way to deliver Physical Therapy. As a therapist at a big company, I was seeing 15-20 patients per day which means I could only give quality, individualized care for 15-20 minutes per patient. In my mind, that is not quality healthcare and is not fair to the patient. The patient’s health should always be our number 1 concern, and I believe the healthcare system has gotten away from that.
But that’s not the biggest reason for starting my own business. For me, Physical Therapy is a calling; it saved my life. At 8 months old, I had a hemorrhagic stroke that affected the left side of my body. Through numerous corrective surgeries and Physical Therapy, I am now able to walk relatively normally and pain-free. It allows me to live independently and do the activities that I love such as hiking and playing basketball.
I want to pay it forward. I believe It is my God-given calling to use Physical Therapy as a tool to serve others to give them their lives back. Starting Results Rehab allows me to fulfill this mission; and I am so excited to see how it can bless others.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from others is my ability to empathize and relate to my clients through my own story. It can be very frustrating to be in pain and/or have some sort of physical impairment. However, we also have the power to choose how we react to it as well as how much we improve upon it. I want to be able to guide others to their success by using my personal experiences as well as my knowledge of the human body.
My ultimate vision is for Results Rehab to be known for giving people their lives back, because that’s what Physical Therapy did for me. I have already helped so many in just two years of business, and am so excited to help many more as Results Rehab grows.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A Brave’s game at Truist Park and the Battery are a must for me; such awesome additions to Atlanta. And of course, you can’t come to Atlanta without seeing the Georgia Aquarium (which I haven’t been to in quite some time either).
Besides that, I would show them around historic Roswell and eat/drink our way through great local spots such as Roux, From the Earth Brewery, and Peach and the Porkchop!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is no question that I wouldn’t be where I am now without the love and support of my family. Growing up can be difficult enough, let alone having a stroke at that age. Yet, I always remember being a happy kid and not having many issues navigating life. In hindsight, it was because my family always taught me resiliency, included me in whatever they were doing, and showed me that I could do anything I wanted to.
That mindset, and those key values instilled in me by them have definitely transferred over as a business owner. I thank the Lord everyday for having them in my life.
