Meet Jaeyoon Perkins | Founder of Melodic Blues Jewelry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaeyoon Perkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaeyoon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to own my own business. When I was laid off from my previous job, I saw it as an opportunity to finally pursue my dream — so I took the chance and ventured out on my own.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is built on something really simple — I just do my best every day. What sets me apart is that I put my heart into everything I do, and I genuinely care about the people I serve.
It definitely hasn’t been easy. There were times I doubted myself and wasn’t sure if I could make it work. But with the support of my husband and family, I kept going through every high and low. I’ve learned that building a business isn’t about having everything figured out — it’s about being willing to grow, learn, and keep showing up even when it’s hard.
What I want people to know about my brand is that it’s personal. It’s not just about the product/service — it’s about creating something meaningful and making people feel valued. That’s what excites me most, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d want them to experience both the local favorites and the little hidden gems I love. We’d definitely start with some good food — breakfast at Duluth Diner, then maybe dinner one night at Delbar. I’d also take them to Sweet Hut for coffee and desserts or 678 Korean BBQ because it’s such a great place to relax and catch up.
During the days, I’d mix in a little adventure and relaxation — maybe walking through McDaniel Park in Duluth, exploring the Atlanta Botanical Garden, or checking out the Gwinnett International Farmers Market. Of course, we’d also spend time strolling through neighborhoods like Midtown and along the Atlanta Beltline to soak in the vibe.
Evenings would be for laughter and good company — whether it’s grabbing drinks at Ponce City Market, listening to live music in East Atlanta, or just hanging out at home with a cozy meal. I’d want them to leave feeling like they really got to see the heart of this place — the food, the people, the little everyday moments that make it special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to my husband and my family. Building a business comes with so many ups and downs, and they’ve been there for me through every emotion — encouraging me when I doubted myself, celebrating the little wins, and reminding me why I started in the first place. I truly couldn’t have done this without their love and support.
