We had the good fortune of connecting with Iyanna Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iyanna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
When it comes to risk I’ve always believed there are two sides, the fear of the unknown and the possibility of growth. I naturally lean toward risk taking because I see it as part of following your passion. I believe being an entrepreneur and business owner is already a risk in its own. Before I first started my journey as an entrepreneur at the age of 19, I was working jobs that didn’t fulfill me. I knew I wanted more out of life and at that time I just completed training to obtain my cosmetology license because beauty has always been a passion of mine. I knew I didn’t want to work for someone else’s dream, I wanted to start my own. So that’s exactly what I did. I took the risk with no money, no experience, and no clientele and rented out a suite to start my lash business. It was a risk worth taking, because here I am six years later still standing as a business owner!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see myself as a creative and artist because I love expressing myself through artistry. Lashing became my safe space in a world full of chaos, and I wanted my work to be a true reflection of my passion. That’s why I’ve always taken pride in pouring my heart into each and every client who stepped foot into my salon. There were times I wanted to give up because things weren’t going as I envisioned or expected but I’m grateful that I didn’t. One moment that stands out was during covid time when I had to temporarily shut down. Instead of quitting, I pulled out my mannequin everyday and practiced my skills until I could take clients again. I overcame by always seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, tuning out distractions, and staying focused on my end goal. I’ve learned that even when times get tough, slow seasons will pass. A true entrepreneurial spirit comes from learning how to pivot and keep going. What I want the world to know is that I built a brand from nothing but a vision. I put in the blood, sweat and tears to make that dream become a reality and they can too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta, I’d definitely want to give them the full experience of the city. We’d start with brunch at Toast on Lenox, the food is amazing, the vibe is fun, and it’s such an Atlanta favorite. After that, it’s a must I take them shopping at Lenox Square or check out the vendors at Atlantic Station because you can always find some really cool, unique pieces there. For dinner I’d make reservations at Wagyu House or STK Atlanta for that premium dining experience. We’d also spend time walking The Beltline, grabbing casual eats, and just soaking in the city energy. To wrap up the nights, I’d take them to rooftops like Ponce City Rooftop or SkyLounge for skyline views. And of course, no trip would be complete without checking out a few hidden gems for photo ops, Atlanta has so many Instagram worthy spots. Overall, it would be a mix of good food, shopping, and fun!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give the biggest shoutout to my dad, he is the reason where I’m at today. If it wasn’t for his initial push of getting me into cosmetology school and helping me secure my very first studio, I honestly don’t know if I would’ve had the drive within myself to make it happen. He taught me everything I needed to know when it comes to running a business- from starting an LLC, filing taxes, investing, and so much more. He helps take the load off of me when things may start to feel overwhelming. Shoutout to my Dad for being my mentor, investor, and support through this journey. I couldn’t have done it without him!
