We had the good fortune of connecting with Hanyuan Guo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hanyuan, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Germany and grew up in China. I have a multi-cultural background which provides me with an open vision of diversity and creativity. My background in production design in film, television, and theatre, I worked for advertising companies for several years. From those experiences, I combined my interest in drawing with the advertising field. Now I am a visual designer and illustrator based in Savannah.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets my work apart is its unique blend of different kinds of art skills, including visual storytelling, concept development, ability to work with people from other departments. I’m excited that after working hard with my friends and college I could see the object has been showed off. My journey to where I am today has been both challenging and rewarding. It certainly wasn’t easy, but overcoming obstacles has been a crucial part of my growth as an artist. I’ve learned to embrace setbacks as opportunities for learning and refinement, and I’ve always stayed true to my vision despite any hurdles along the way. The main lesson I learned about is not to give up and keep my passion along the way. Also, it is important to balance my life with work, do not push myself too much. I want the world to know that my art is a reflection of my passion, dedication, and authenticity. I hope that my art resonates with people from all walks of life and inspires them to see the world in new and meaningful ways.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends are visiting Savannah, I might take them to the Historic District, such as Forsyth Park. Enjoying the local food, At night, I might take them on the ghost tour to have fun. In my view, exploring this area’s history and culture is the most interesting thing during the trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In the early stages of my career, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family, whose encouragement has propelled me further along the path of artistic creation. Additionally, I would like to extend my appreciation to Professor Ma Jun from my undergraduate university. As a contemporary artist, he broadened my perspective on various artistic mediums, sparking my interest in becoming a multidisciplinary artist. Furthermore, I would like to express my gratitude to the illustration department at SCAD for their invaluable contributions to my development.
