We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Whitted and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The amount of time that goes into being a professional photographer and videographer. There is a set time allotment pre, during, and post shoot. There is a timeframe prior that includes communications, consultations etc. Then you have the actual shoot which requires travel to and from and the time actually shooting. Then post is honestly where majority of your time is spent color correcting and professionally editing your images. So a 1 hour shoot can easily add in excess of 7+ hours.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Never easy with any of the steps that I have encountered in life. Outside of photographer I currently have a career as a Virtual Infrastructure Engineer. I have a Bachelors in Information Systems & a Masters of Science in Software Engineering which has allowed me to continue to progress within my career. The photography life had its challenging as the amount of time required to build your brand requires a lot. I had to learn how to balance my time practicing photography while also maintaining my career. I want the world to know that Capturing Reality is a brand that is so diverse that it provides images/videography from sports to weddings to portraits to events. I have a serious passion with sports photography with a goal of shooting professional sports and HBCU sports to really highlight my culture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well all of my friends are in the city already so thats a little different for me to answer but something very chill. When im not working or shooting im into just overall hanging out. Go grab some wings and a drink & just build while talking about life progression. Checking in with each other on mental health and how life is going is very big with me. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
An organization that I would live to give a shout out to is the Highland Springs Football Organization. This organization/program was the 1st to allow me to really bring my creative ideas to fruition, I learned how to capture sports photography and even created a sports documentary on this program which then took my business to another level. I have been able to help young men gain college exposure of the images and clips that I have created for them. From shooting this program I have landed over 12 weddings in 1 year based off the quality of my sports photos and videography. I am forever grateful for how that program has allowed me to expound on my creativity,
