We had the good fortune of connecting with Eileen Buelt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eileen, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve worked in mental health for 20 years and work life balance has not come easy. I have had to master the art of leaving work at the office in order to be fully present for my family and friends outside of work. It’s about maintaining healthy boundaries and prioritizing your time and energy.  Early in my career, I often overextended myself and had trouble telling people “no.” I think many folks struggle with this. It’s really important to learn how to communicate your limits with others. At the end of the day, you have to stay true to your values. When I got better at maintaining work life balance, I felt a sense of relief and renewed energy about my work. Sometimes it’s a journey to find the right balance for you and that’s ok.

What should our readers know about your business?
Clearstone Counseling is the name of my psychotherapy practice where I provide therapy for adolescents, adults and families. I use a client-centered approach that blends modalities like cognitive behavioral, mindfulness and relational neurobiology. My style is one of warmth, empathy, humor and authenticity. Psychotherapy is as much art as it is science. Textbooks don’t teach you how to relate to others in a way that makes them feel seen and heard, but wisdom does. I started my own business mid-career, after years of working in community agencies where burnout is prevalent. I’ve learned to embrace taking risks, flexibility and self-compassion, which I think have helped me overcome challenges.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best things in life are food, coffee, nature and ice cream! I love trying new restaurants and finding hidden gems around the city. I would have to bring my friend to Buford Highway to eat Taiwanese food at La Mei Zei, Korean fried chicken at Hello Chicken and dumplings/noodles at Gu’s Kitchen. For coffee, we’d have to go to Joe’s in East Atlanta or Dancing Goats in Decatur where I always seem to run into friends. It’s easy to find green space around town to relax. Atlanta really is the “city in the forest.” With a blanket in hand, we’d go find the perfect spot at Piedmont Park or Oakland Cemetery to gaze at the clouds. Finally, we’d have to indulge in the city’s best ice cream, Morelli’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mentor Charlene Crafton, a good friend and fellow social worker. Early in my career, she saw my potential and encouraged me to go back to school to get my Master’s degree and my clinical license. At the time, all I saw were obstacles, but she helped me find clarity, perspective and taught me to invest in my future. Throughout the years, she’s talked me through each career and life decision I’ve made, as well as been a force of loving kindness in my life. I’d also like to recognize my husband Daric for his endless support and unconditional love. I cherish the inspirational post-it messages he makes for me. He compliments me in every way and I’m grateful for his support.
