We had the good fortune of connecting with Eddison Smith III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eddison, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I’m really big on affirmations. A quote that I live by, and one that has always kept me encouraged is, “Keep Moving Forward…”. As a young boy, I first heard of this quote from the movie “Meet the Robinsons”. This quote gained more meaning to me throughout the years. Through failure, success, and tough times, this quote reminds me to keep my foot on the gas pedal and never take backwards steps. I remember this quote whenever I’m not feeling my best or need an extra boost of encouragement. Life is hard. There are always roadblocks in the way but by reminding myself to keep moving forward, I am able to get through any roadblock in the way.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a modern creative content creator and director. Majority of my work compliments the modern day esthetics of the 20th century time. I am really heavy on building a relationship with my clients and really learning their story or why they do what they do. Anyone who works with me develops not only a strong business relationship but a friendship. I provide my clients with the best digital solutions that match their particular esthetics or brand character. I love to grow with my clients and whenever I see them reaching new levels my purpose feels fulfilled. I am in my element whenever I can be creative. I have been designing since middle school. I got really serious about graphic design when I joined the yearbook club in high school. After high school, my interest continued in college where I studied graphic design as a minor. For my multiple college organizations, I would design creative advertisements to promote our different social events. Though I wasn’t making much money, I was gaining more experience and developing my craft. After college, like everyone else, I submitted multiple applications to varies creative jobs. I could never fully land a good position. While on my search, I continued to design for small businesses and black entrepreneurs. As I continue to gain more work, and help more clients I started to feel like the typical 9 to 5 wasn’t where I needed to be. Fast forward to today, I decided to bet on myself, quit my search for a full time job and I have successful helped over 100s of clients modernize their brands and design personalities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming into town I would definitely share the diversity and beauty of the city of Atlanta with them. I can’t let them leave from Atlanta without trying out popular black owned spots like Slutty Vegan and Old Lady Gang. Pre Covid-19, I would take them to nice lounges like fellaship and enjoy the roof top vibes at the suite lounge. During the pandemic I love that there are still open safe options like the the Atlanta Botanical garden, or Centennial Piedmont park where we could host a nice picnic or even take a walk around to get a breath of fresh air. And Lastly, for the culture, we could not leave without visiting the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where do I start, I owe so many people and influences credit to my success in my entrepreneurial journey. Before I become a full time entrepreneur I was working at T-shirt design and printing company. While there I felt as though I was compromising my potential designing for little money. Day in and day out I would constantly be encourage to go off and do my own thing. Multiple friends, family members, fraternity brothers, and clients constantly reminded me of my worth. Through their push, I took that first step and trusted the gift God has given me. I’m so very grateful for everyone who has poured into me over these past 4 years.
