We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Yates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, what principle do you value most?
Don’t play the comparison game. Never compare yourself to others, instead compare yourself to your past self. Focus on what you’re doing, not everyone else around you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
YATES! is a producer/DJ out of Atlanta, Georgia. He started playing music in his early years before High School. He was drawn to the power and intensity of hardcore/metal music. At the age of 19 Drew Yates was given the opportunity to tour around the country with the popular Warped Tour, which was a huge milestone for him.

After spending many years of playing with several bands, YATES! decided to explore new musical horizons. Drew began to dabble with music production and dove head first into DJing. He held many different residency positions over the years including: Wobble Wednesday, Quad, Iris, & Wild Bills.

What sets YATES! apart from the rest is his guitar. Drew loves to push music to great boundaries by adding real instrumentation to his sound. When asking YATES! Why do you play guitar on top of your sets? “Because it gives EVERYTHING more epicness!”

He is known for his captivating live performances best known for seamlessly blending live guitar riffs with electronic beats, creating a mesmerizing and unforgettable experience for his fans. YATES! continues to push the boundaries of his craft, constantly striving for something new and different.

Aside from producing and performing, Yates also is know for throwing successful shows. His company, Frequency 36 is dedicated to promoting live music events that showcase some of the best talent in the country with the primary focus being on sound, visuals, and experience. Working with a small team of professionals, Yates! has built a reputation for putting on unforgettable shows that leave audiences speechless.

YATES! is a true innovator in the music industry, always pushing the limits on what is possible. With a bright future to come, YATES! will never stop making big waves in the music world for years to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Part of throwing events is entertaining the artist. I have many artist that come in and out of Atlanta that I am responsible for entertaining before and after the event. One of the biggest and most important things in my opinion is to show artist good ole southern hospitality. With that being said, I will usually take them to Six Flags during the day or a nice hike on one of Atlanta/North GA many nature trails. ‘

Next, I 9/10 will always take them to Flower Child at the Shops at Lenox. It is a wonderful health food spot that never misses. Staff is extremely friendly and the food is amazing consistently.

If there is time, I always like to show off the other venues and companies that are doing great things in the city. Typically I will take them to Aisle 5, any Speakeasy Promotions event, Believe Music Hall for an Iris event, 529, The Eastern, Terminal West, Tabernacle, The Masquerade, and then Arcadia Atlanta for the afterhours.
