We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tahaira J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Tahaira, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, starting my own business was less of a choice and more of a calling. I was tired of watching systems continuously fail women, especially Black, Indigenous, and women of color during the most sacred moments of their lives. After experiencing these systemic inequalities firsthand, I realized I couldn’t wait for systems to shift, instead I had to be the shift.

I saw a gap where compassion, culture, and care should exist. Deepening my desire to create something that not only honors those who came before me, but also empowers the next generation to reclaim their wellness, their wombs, and their worth.

By merging my passion for birthwork, holistic healing, and intentional care, I knew I could build a space where people feel seen, supported, and spiritually held. That’s how Pampered Blessings was born: a labor of love, purpose, and divine alignment

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Whew—easy is the last word I’d use to describe this journey. Getting to where I am today business-wise took grit, faith, and a whole lot of growing through what I was going through. It came with sacrifice, tears, and moments where I truly questioned if I was built for this. But every time I got knocked down, I reminded myself why I started and that “why” always brought me back to purpose.

I overcame the challenges by staying anchored in my vision, leaning into my tribe, and trusting that even the detours were part of divine direction. I learned to give myself grace, to rest without guilt, and to stop waiting for perfect conditions to start.

The biggest lesson? You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin, you just have to be obedient to the calling while remembering your path is not comparable to anyone else’s because it’s your own.

What I want the world to know is this: Pampered Blessings is more than a brand. It’s a love letter to my community, my ancestors, and to every woman who’s ever felt unseen in spaces meant to honor her. My story is about reclaiming space, rewriting narratives, and reminding Black and brown women that their bodies are sacred and their wellness is non-negotiable. I’m here to create healing spaces and pour into others the way I wish someone had poured into me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I’m being real, I’ve turned into a true homebody over the last few years. These days, if I’m not in the house, I want to be somewhere peaceful near water or surrounded by flowers. But for the sake of the question, a few spots I’d definitely throw on the itinerary are Rosé & Rye because their Frosé is my fave and somewhere serene like the Bamboo Forest or the Botanical Garden.

When it comes to food, nothing tops my mama’s kitchen—I can’t even lie. But if I’m out, I love grabbing Haitian food from Zeke’s and hitting El Rey Del Taco for a late-night bite. It’s giving soft life with a side of good food and nature vibes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout first and foremost to my mama, my biggest cheerleader. She has celebrated every milestone with me, supported every dream I’ve dared to chase, wiped my tears, spoken life into me, and picked me back up every time I felt like giving up. Her strength and love are the roots of everything I do.

I also have to shout out my TT Iesha. It was her birth experience that lit a fire in me to change the way other women experience their births. Her story as well as my own birth story sparked my mission.

And last but never least, to my tribe….you all know who you are. Thank you for being the best support system, the loudest motivators, and the softest landing place through it all. I truly don’t know if I would’ve made it through some of the hardest parts of my journey without your love and presence.
