We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kyla Lurry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kyla, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have an interesting take on the word balance – I think that “balance” works to our disadvantage because I believe in creating harmony and flow in everyday life. Sometimes, we see balance as a making it all fit together when life doesn’t work that way. Each season is different and it’s important to NOT frame your worldview on making the pieces work. I stopped balancing long ago – I found myself just doing it all – whether I was exhausted or overwhelmed I had to make balance. Then I got a revelation that everything isn’t meant to be done at one time. You can’t build 100 things and find balance or success. That’s a myth, a fallacy that the world would have us subscribe to. Instead, I offer the solution and words of creating harmony in your world. Whatever is working in a healthy space – do that. I believe we know when the grace is there and when it is not. So, for me, I tend to evaluate every season I am in. I don’t balance – I allow the seasons to flow and create harmony with one another. I ask myself, does this flow, is it bearing fruit, do I see the fruit in my personal and professional life in a healthy way? This is not to say that challenges don’t arise in your life – ff course, there is friction and opposition at times, but that’s vastly different than forcing something and being miserable because you’re creating “balance”. Anything that causes a massive amount of anxiety, lack of eating, sleep, and does’t provide proper self-care, etc. in life may not be in its proper place and it has to be removed or renegotiated. I keep in mind that not now, doesn’t equal a no – it’s just a not now.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Whew! For those who don’t know me, I am the CEO and Founder of KylaNicole,LLC and my name is Kyla Lurry. I am a trauma coach, and a small business policy expert who so happens to own a publishing company. For more clarity, I help individuals process, heal, and deal with their trauma as a result of childhood trauma, abuse, divorce etc. I help entrepreneurs build a profitable business by implementing policies, procedures, and systems to enhance their customer experience and workflows and my publishing company focuses sharing the triumphant stories, life changing victories, children advancement and academia of all kind. We are dedicated to professional and personal development. I am blessed to operate and do everything that I love and the profit just so happens to come with it. I believe that’s what makes me different. I am a person, who loves to write and publish, loves and serves people, and adores to see people WIN. I am a nerd by nature and I don’t share what I don’t personally know or have dealt with. I am committed to growth and that shows in my business. I have been in business for a little over 6 years but actually operating in my business for 4. I say that because I treated it like a hobby for a while until I figured it out. When I committed to not cheating on myself – I soared. I faced all sorts of challenges and still do but I try to be innovative, keep a positive approach, and I learn.. I read and apply. Wisdom is nothing without proper application of the knowledge that you have. The greatest lesson I’ve learned is you get what you cultivate and you can’t expect longevity when you’re losing privately – you have to actively water yourself because money means nothing, You can have it – but with poor integrity, no character, a nasty attitude it’ll certainly be short lived. I want the world to know that I am a force to be reckoned with. I can’t be limited and I won’t be squashed. We all have a story, something that motivates us, and challenges us to push past what we think is even possible – my message to the world is to keep pushing. Let your light shine! Keep standing on the gas and grab life by the horns and don’t let up and while you’re there -stay honest. If you ever have to choice between the job and your integrity – choose the latter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OMG! I have lived in ATL for the last 4 years.. I’ve not even begun to explore this entire place but if I had a week with my bestie – we would have a blast. We’re going to relax and catch up first. A home cooked meal has to happen first. After wards, we will eat at some of my favorite places. Zama’s, La Parillia, Nancy’s Pizza, GoodFellas, American Deli and we have to sit down at True Food Kitchen! We’re definitely. headed to the Art Museum, GA Aquarium, the MLK historic site, and at night we’re visiting my favorite Hookah Place. Anatoila Cafe! We’re getting up one morning and eating at 13th and Piedmont, and Flying Biscuit. and one afternoon we’re headed to Douceur de France and staying a day at Chateau Elan. Surprisingly, I LOVE being home too so I must stay local for a day or two!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My tribe of course! First there’s God – He’s the plug! Then, I am always shouting out my family, my sisterhood, my mentor, and the people that have forced me to grow! They know who they are, but I would be NOTHING without that circle.
