We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
While being a full time entrepreneur I worked as a foster care case manager. Working as a foster care case manager was very time consuming and demanding. I would work 60 hours a week and still had to find time to do homework and make graduation gear. There were many long nights and times where I had to pay $100 or more to ensure that my customers received their graduation gear on time. I realized that I need a better work life balance. I had to step back reflect on what things could changed. I decided to take another job opportunity which was a significant pay cut but allowed me the work-life balance desired. The change in work life balance allowed me to take better care of myself and provide a better shipping experience for my customers. Balance is essential in all aspects of life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a master level social worker working in the education field. I believe that education is the key component to success! Not all education comes in the form of school and classes ;however, for the education that does, it’s personal. I believe that scholars should be able to highlight what is important to them and has inspired them to complete their accomplishment. Therefore Stole the Spotlight was created!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While going on a trip I love eats! I believe that some of the best places to eat in Nashville are NOIR and New York, New York. If you are a brunch person Hopsmith is great! Shopping is always fun which is possible at any local mall. If you are looking to experience something new and adventurous I think that helicopter ride or an escape room would be great!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My line sisters, Jordan Gustus and Carren Collier have played a key role in Stole the Spotlight! They have also stood ready and willingly to help during the slightest inconveniences and major breakdowns; they are my support system! They helped me rebrand and help me daily thinking critically on to grow my business.
