We had the good fortune of connecting with Dï Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dï, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I believe that this is something that we all struggle with in life. As a creative we tend to be our hardest critic on ourselves. I am still learning when to let go of a project, but over time I have learned to be gentle with myself. As I grow as a filmmaker, I realize that I am evolving and so is my vision. Before where I would keep re-writing scenes or sit on a project because I looked at it as not being good enough, I know now that any thing that I create is art and that it may inspire or influence someone else. I don’t look at it as giving up, but milestones for how far I have come and to keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I look at myself as more of an artist than a filmmaker. I pride myself on creating pieces like art that will linger with others for awhile if not a lifetime. I always root for the underdog and I am drawn to telling those stories that may seem taboo or lack representation. Sometimes all it takes is one person to inspire others and being someone that doesn’t fit in what is expected to be the “norm” or what society always wants, I know what it feels like to feel not seen or heard. That is why it has always been important to me to make sure that I put out inspiring content or that I am attached to projects that are inspiring and will positively impact others. Getting to where I am at as a film director and content creator hasn’t always been easy. A few of my projects haven’t always been favorable for the majority, but knowing the impact that they have had on others has always been and will always be the reason why I keep going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If one of my best friends were coming to visit Atlanta I would definitely set aside a Sunday to take them to Ponce City Market. It has a variety of food and drink options with great views of the city from the rooftop to take photos or selfies. Not to mention the easy access to the belt line. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize all of the people who from day one have continued to believe in, push, and remind me of my vision. Especially, on those days that I was unsure of or not able to fully see my vision.
