We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetrius Dukes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demetrius, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If you’re walking in your purpose you always should keep going. Things are going to come in the way, small things will start to aggravate you, sometimes things may even get hard but if it’s meant for you then keep going. I’ve had my moments within my business where i became overwhelmed and wanted to quit and just stay home with my baby but owning a nail salon was always my dream and a goal of mine! I’m an inspiration to all the young girls that you can actually make it! If I quit then id be showing them it’s ok to quit when things get hard.
What should our readers know about your business?
QD Nail Bar is a luxury nail salon. My salon will be open for 3 years as of April 28, 2021. Ive build my clientele and maintained my business because I’m always professional, my work is nice and clean and my clients are always comfortable in my salon. It was not easy and I still have moments. Building clientele was much easier when I 1st started because there wasn’t a lot of American nail techs in my area. Maintaining that clientele was the hard part because I had to teach myself how to provide quality work each time. I opened my business with no business loans so I had to save up and pay out of pocket for everything. Makes me appreciate it more because I really worked for my business. Along the way, I’ve learned how as long as I remain professional, provide quality work and to never put down another nail sister my business will always flourish. I’ve learned it’s enough out here for everyone to thrive and grow. Whenever I can Ill always help another nail tech because I know how it feels to need help and no one wanted to help. Me and my brand will always stand out. I’ve made a name for myself and I’m still making my mark with my brand!!! I want all the young people to know that you can do it. Even if you feel like you don’t have the support you want, somebody is watching. When I’m teaching I always tell my girls to remain humble. That’s how my business keeps flourishing. When teaching my teen nail classes I aim to build our young women up! Showing them the right way to do things! I help with their confidence as well!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother deserves a lot of the credit. She supported from the beginning when I started at 11 years old. I was able to practice designs on her toes and she made sure I had all types of nail products. She invested in me from my nail products to my nail class and instructor class as well.
