We had the good fortune of connecting with Dee Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dee, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The principle of giving back to others guides all of my personal and professional decisions above all else. Regardless of the purpose of the interaction, I try to enter any relationship or rapport with the guiding principle that whatever I do will impact the person I am working with positively and leave a footprint that will help others that come after me. With FTO I am often giving space and a platform to highlight the work of new and upcoming artists who are unable to catch the attention of mainstream media sources. I also try to ask them thoughtful questions that will showcase not only the work they did but also their motivation for doing it. I have found that by sharing my platform with budding artists, I am able to develop meaningful relationships with people and further the reach of my brand and theirs. Often I am able to partner with people who are underrepresented because of their socio-political identity and by giving them the space to display their talents.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is mostly trying to see how society will react to the ideal Im trying to promote. Which is mostly altruism. It’s challenges me often and most days I feel like I’m the only one that’s listening but its worth it. If I can give any words of wisdom it would be, “keep asking yourself the hard questions because only you can truly answer them.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s simple, Little Five Points. I believe it has everything that Atlanta has to offer thats new a fresh. It’s open and accepting and very progressive. It’s changing constantly but it always has.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
