We had the good fortune of connecting with Davian Chester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davian, how does your business help the community?
Well, I feel my business helps highlight and brings more attention to Black-Owned Businesses. There are so many wonderful businesses out there, not only am I thankful to be apart of the movement, I am so happy to see more and more of them thrive from having amazing artwork attached to their ideas!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I Illustrate the Black Experience! I love to tell stories, share experiences, and spread awareness with my work. I love to generate discussions, get people talking, and sharing! I have always wanted the world to see my art, I am still working on that dream. It was a slow start, but I never gave up or lost hope. I knew I had beautiful works of art that were meant to be seen. I just kept creating, I still do! One of the biggest lessons I have learned was timing. Everything is meant to come up on its own time. Might not be exactly when I want it to happen but it is at the right time. I used to try and rush things when it came to my art, and where I wanted to be. I learned to just keep doing what I do best, never give up, and keep practicing. I can always continue to learn new things and be where I want to be when it is time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I would say The Noodle, Grindhouse, and Taqueria del Sol in Decatur. Then almost every spot in the Ponce city market. Checking out the High Museum then The VOID at The Battery | Atlanta for some VR action. Lastly, find some pop-up art events to check out, it is always fun to meet and chat with other artists and seeing all the talent in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out an artist. Not only is this artist a good friend of mine, but she is also a huge inspiration. I am always inspired and motivated when I see her creations. She is a huge supporter of my work, and ALWAYS spreads love, creativity, and positive vibes 24/7. I also hope to collaborate and make something special very soon when our schedules align. Kelly Johnson, social media handle @kellyfreespirit333. Her art is AMAZING please check her out.
