We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrick Atwater and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darrick, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand, Agent Method, is the unique combination of my passion for music, sound design, and a touch of irreverent, ridiculous humor that has a touch of self-deprecation. This blend allows me to connect with my audience on a more personal level, making my work not only memorable but also enjoyable. By infusing my brand with a genuine sense of dumb, but smart humor and creativity, I’ve been able to stand out in a competitive industry and build a loyal following.
Because of this, I work with and am sponsored by various large scale audio companies like Slate Digital, KiloHearts, Korneff Audio, Cherry Audio, Sonic Academy, Make Pop Music, Reason Studios, and others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I take great pride in creating a unique fusion of music, sound design, and humor through my brand, Agent Method. The path to where I am today professionally has been anything but simple, but the challenges and experiences have been incredibly rewarding.
Starting with a strong educational foundation, I gained valuable experience by working in various studios and production roles. Along the way, I took risks and embraced new genres, which helped me develop resilience and adaptability. These qualities have become essential in the ever-evolving world of sound design.
Of course, it’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance. By making time for outdoor activities and fitness, I’ve been able to recharge my creative energies and remain focused on my projects without experiencing super heavy burnout… but we all still burn out. You know how it is.
So, what is it that I’d like the world to know about my brand and story? Agent Method represents stupid smartness, creativity, and some irreverent humor. My goal is to connect with people through the power of music and sound while laughing at “meta” of its all. The journey may not always be a smooth one, but I’m gonna see where it leads…
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Geez this is hard.
I’m so used to working and the more local work/life balance i maintine, i don’t really think much about this. I really love the beach and sea food. So… the beach. lol
My family and I do a week at the Portofino Resort in Pensacola every year, so it would probably be that. That tends to re-charge my batteries a bit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cynthia Atwater, Lang Atwater, Ivory Williams, Bruce Kane, Doug Beilmier, Steven Lilly, Steve Wanna, and many of my other teachers and mentors.
