We had the good fortune of connecting with Danyell aka DJ Gotta Strut and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danyell, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
That my brand not only has an impact on someone’s life experiences, but that it also encourages others to pursue their dreams and goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am DJ Gotta Strut, a travelling DJ based in Atlanta. I am not only a female DJ, I am a vibe. I took classes to learn how to DJ and I pretty much built my network. I seize every opportunity to connect with people, no matter what city I am in or if I am on another assignment. It is always time to promote Gotta Strut. When I am actually at a gig and performing, people that I have given a memorable experience are more likely to want that same feeling again and to spread the word. That’s the best part about wearing masks, lol. I get to promote my brand when I am out and about.

I wouldn’t say that it was easy or hard. It’s a journey and I just enjoy and learn from all of it. I share what I’ve learned on the way with other aspiring DJs and even other professionals, because it can help them in their journeys. I have the attitude that if I’m supposed to have something, it will come in perfect timing. You just have to do the work. I also don’t desire to be anywhere I am not desired or appreciated, so I don’t worry about where I’m not yet or who hasn’t given me an opportunity. I have had the honor of having a lot of people helping and supporting me along the way as well. That is my focus.

Gotta Strut is a brand, whether it comes to the way I dress, my attitude towards the way I navigate life, and the way I want others to feel about this journey we call life. Love exactly who you are and if you aren’t reaching your potential, get to it!

I also own another business called Love Official which hosts weddings and events. I am a wedding officiant.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We will do a few things but a lot of it will probably be surrounding my DJ schedule. Lol. Okay, so the first thing we are going to do is head to brunch. Everyday is a good day to brunch in Atlanta and we are heading to @toastonlenox If my friend really wants the real Atlanta experience, we are going to Magic City on a Monday night. Tuesday night we are going to @lilysatl where I DJ an R&B International Taco Tuesdays night. Wednesday we will go shopping. I really dislike malls, but we will go to Perimeter and do a local pickup order from @EmbellishedLA boutique. We would probably grab something from Velvet Taco. Thursday nights we will be at Pure Lounge of course because I DJ a pregame to the weekend night there. Friday, we will go to Tom, Dick & Hanks to hang. Saturday we will be back at Lily’s for the day party I DJ and that night we will go 15 minutes west of the city for Old School Sexy Saturdays at Allure Lounge in Douglasville.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can’t even name specific people, because there are so many that had an impact on my success. Whether it’s encouragement, support in so many forms, telling others about my brand, hiring me, coming to events to support me, motivating me to keep going and not fear, helping me with technical questions, etc. I definitely want to shout out my husband because he’s there helping me, behind the scenes, always and my daughter as well!
