We had the good fortune of connecting with Dakoro Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dakoro, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success with the Dakoro Art Brand is compassion. The willingness to view life from another person’s perspective has been extremely pivitol, it is what creates a bridge between where we’ve been, the impact we have on eachother, and what we have or don’t have in common.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think as artist we all pull from similar pools of information and observations. I tend to pay attention to the struggles and triumphs of society and how different cultures maneuver through those obstacles. I take risks to live in the moment, and that approach is dangerous and difficult for some, but I can’t create a work of art you can feel unless I’ve felt it. I commit to seeing the entire process through, from observation to concept, materializing it onto a canvas, then sharing it with the world so that it can be interpreted by and for those I hope to inspire.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge fan of food, so anywhere we visit throughout the city will always involve either eating on the move or somewhere stationary for the ambiance like the High Museaum on a Friday evening for drinks and jazz, Kats Cafe for the live music and pizza, or Ponce City Market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have been very instrumental in this entire journey as an Artist and as a man. The encouragement I recieved from the creativity and rhythm of my mother as a singer and artist, and from my father as a poet and chef has always enabled me to utilize and sometimes even seperate the functions of our five senses. Their support has always been unconditional and has allowed me to be completely transparent with my style of painting and creativity.
