We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyrene Tankard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cyrene, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The test of times shouldn’t be the reason why someone gives up. It doesn’t matter what industry you decide to go in you will face challenges. Check in with yourself and make sure you are happy within. Your business should be your baby and with any relationship there will be ups and downs, personally I don’t think it’s ever a time to give up. Maybe it’s just time to adjust and shift gears. Never confuse that with giving up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think it’s cool that my life is based on product testing and sharing. I literally get paid to share my opinion. No it’s not easy, there are always obstacles to overcome. For example, growing a following, increasing engagement. Creating ads are a lot of work and sometimes difficulties stand in the way. With that in mind, I think one of the most beautiful realizations I’ve had is that if I don’t get the response I want. It’s ok!! I can try again. And that’s the beauty in working in a creative space. New ideas. New techniques and new energy is always welcomed and embraced.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well being in Dc, it’s usually tons to do- pre COVID at least. We have to do artechouse, I love the wharf- one of my fav bars 12 stories is there- beautiful view of the city. The African American museum & the monuments. For food there’s some hole in the wall spots I’d take my friends to. The spice suite, they have the best spices in the world! Let’s see, we could also do navy yard- cool area and some cool dining options!! Of course we’d shop at tysons corner and city center! My friends know it’s up anytime they swing this way’

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, my boyfriend, Thea- my mentor in the production industry. Darren for believing in me. Mrs. Stacey- who gave me my first real job. Howard university, my family, and friends. All those who took a chance on me and believed in me.
