Meet Crystal Harris | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was first thinking of is it a need in the community? if so, how much of an impact would it make? Then most importantly, how can I be different? What could I do to make myself stand out from my competition? What is the start-up cost? Can I afford it? if not, what do I need to do to get the necessary funds to start my business. In addition to those questions, I wanted to make sure I was passionate about this journey, and I asked myself will I continue to stay in there even if it does not bring in enough or no income. Once I gathered this information, I knew I wanted to be a Fashion designer, I had no clue that years later I would grow into providing a platform for other emerging designers, so they didn’t go through the struggles and anxiety I went through when I started. I currently have a full women’s clothing line, fashion web-series, fashion podcast and a fashion trade show that I currently use to promote other emerging designers called Nya Nya Experience Expo, the next show will be held on 8/12/2023.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As far as my clothing line, what makes me different is that it’s a very creative process I always add something different in the detail. I like my items to be exclusive, so no 2 items are exactly alike. The whole point of me starting my clothing brand was because I didn’t like wearing the same thing someone else had on, so I apply that rule to my brand. I think I have came so far because I start paying attention and listening to my fans. I applied their suggestions to my business and in the end, it helped my brand. It was definitely not easy and a lot of times I wanted to give up, but I realized certain things wasn’t meant for my brand such as: create a sample, get a mass production created, place inside of stores. My path was different, and I am happy and satisfied with it. I found myself wasting a lot of money trying to follow the typical rule of placing my brand in stores. At one point I had to put my brand on hold in the beginning, get a job to recoup some of the money I lost doing that process. In the end I learned that everybody could have the same vision, but the ending may be different. Follow your path and do not get distracted. I am most proud that my fans loved my brand so much that they trusted me and my brand to provide a platform for them to be recognized. I am happy that I can eliminate some stress for them as they are starting their journey. As of 2023, in addition to our trade show we are now using our new fashion web-series to promote our brand called “Married to Fashion of Atlanta” it will air late February 2023.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For brunch I would do Milk & Honey restaurant in East Point, Ga For Dinner I would do Pappadeaux in Marietta
I like to hang out in Ponce City Market
