We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Dillett-Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, what’s your definition for success?
I define Success as developing purpose through what you love to do. Whether it is crafting, building, or caring for children…whatever your heart draws near to is what pushes you to your purpose in life. For me, my success came from the love of hair. It came from simply playing in my dads hair as a toddler to trying different celebrity styles on myself as an outlet to showing my creative side as I did in many ways. It came second nature to me. Success to me is being at peace every day doing what you love….along with financial stability, it’s the sprinkle on top to remind you that you are on the right track of your purpose. Success is what you put into not only your business but your mind, body, and spirit to keep your business afloat despite of challenges that will come your way through the journey of being a Business Owner.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What set’s New Serenity Hair Salon apart from any other salon is the foundation was built on Love. The love for Hair, our clients, and time spent during each service set a safe place for humility, for truth, for so many things that positively impacted the lives of others. Regardless of your background, status, ethnicity, being able to just be YOU and giving us a chance to implement that through Hair is astounding. And I thank God everyday that whether it’s through Hair or through conversation, I am able to positively make a difference in how a person feel about themselves or in whatever they are going through. And that is what I am proud of. I honestly did not see myself as an owner but knew at the time that there was more for me even when I didn’t understand it at the time. It was scary but along that way, I began to learn more and more that this was what I am supposed to do.
Understanding that my Representation, Customer service and Dependability meant everything to the success of New Serenity Hair Salon and those were things that I pushed for every time.
I want the world to know that no matter where you came from, you can be what you heart desire, if you put in THE WORK for it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a wife, mother of 3, in leadership, and a business owner ….I unfortunately don’t get out much like I would like to, So, I would love to explore what Atlanta has to offer right with them checking out local restaurants, shops, and entertainment! Art and Music are my cup of tea so anything along those lines would be awesome! One place I recently checked out with my family was The Yard, the Ice Cream was Amazing!!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are MANY people that God placed that played a huge part in my Success. And without them I definitely would not be where I am today. But in all, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Mother, Cheryl Dillett. She helped instill in me that all things are possible and I can accomplish anything I set my mind to despite of any situation… if I stayed Persistent, never stop learning and choosing to be better than the last time. This also consisted of learning to not be afraid of rejection and accountability. She helped create that foundation I have today, which now have put me in the position to my Purpose. With that, I am forever grateful for the good, bad, and ugly parts of my journey.
