We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtnie Danyell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtnie, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I feel like that’s a very hard question to answer. If its something that you’re passionate about, and you cannot see yourself doing anything else I don’t think you should ever give up. But at the same time, God has a plan for all of us and often times our plans do not correlate with His. What God has for you already has your name on it. If you put Him first, giving up shouldn’t be an option.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a high fashion runway and print model. Modeling is super competitive so of course I have my shares of challenges that I went through but overcame. Being a dark skinned model, I found it very difficult to be represented in a positive light, and getting booked for gigs that doesn’t require me to change the way I look naturally. The modeling industry has changed drastically and has gotten better with diversity but still needs more work. I want to be able to motivate and inspire young black girls that they are beautiful just the way they are, and they are capable of doing whatever their hearts desire.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Girl! I have a list for you. Of course I would take her to our well known spots, which is the Coca Cola Factory, the aquarium and the Botanical Garden. We would have dinner at my favorite restaurants which is Pappaduex, and Roc South Cuisine another night. We take brunch seriously over here, so I would take her to Milk and Honey one morning followed by a shopping day. I like to go with the flow, but regardless we’re going to have a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for everything. I also want to thank my mother for her endless amount of support and love, and to everyone else who has shown love throughout my journey.
