We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Sawyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Willingness to put the customer first and go above and beyond to satisfy my clients. My clients know that when they come to their appointment I will always listen to them and go the extra mile for whatever they may need.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my genuine connection I make with my clients. Each one I get to know and I consider them my friends. I am proud of my work and my Technique. I do so much research on the best products to use for my clients and I never stop learning. I’m always looking at new things to bring in or start doing for the business. I just recently created my own custom finishing powder to use on my clients and I’m pretty excited about that. One of the biggest things I have learned is to always be yourself, many people will do what you do, but make sure your clients remember you and remember the authenticity you bring to each appointment.
At the end of the day, I’m here to make my clients feel good about themselves. To be able to give them a safe space to talk during their appointment, no judgment. I take pride in my work and always give my clients the most natural glow that they are wanting.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Top golf is a must for me. I love going there. We would go to Mary Mac’s tea room and the optimist. I also believe everyone who visits Atlanta has to eat at the Varsity at least once in their life!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family. My husband,George, is the one who pushes me, encourages me, and always believes in me. From helping me create content to repainting and decorating my entire studio, he’s been there helping and giving me that push of encouragement and I know I couldn’t do what I’m doing or be where I am today without him.
My business, The Afterglow, is dedicated to my mom, Kim. She was diagnosed in 2020 with Ovarian Cancer. Our main color for our brand is teal, which is the ovarian cancer ribbon color. Also, our name has a little deeper meaning than just a tan. Afterglow definition is “a glow remaining where a light disappeared” and through all of the rounds of chemo, surgery, and sickness my mom never lost her glow. We can happily say that in 2022, my mom is in total remission!!!!
