We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a younger adult, I’ve NEVER had a desire to start my own business. I was always comfortable working a 9-5 because that’s what I saw my parents do. When Covid-19 came back in 2020, that’s when I got the motivation to start my own business. Working almost everyday during a crisis was the scariest thing for me and seeing how many people were able to be in the comfort of their own home whether they were on paid leave or started a business for income really showed me a lot. I’ve always had talent, I just never know what to do with it and the fact that it’s soooo many people in the world making money off of their talents made me think “well why can’t I do that??” It just makes me want wayyy more for myself. That being said, I got my LLC and started my business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of starting my DJ career. This is a male dominated industry which is just one of the reasons I decided to become a DJ. I am excited for what’s to come because I’ve already made strong connections with people, venues, etc. My motivation to start my DJ career came from the fact that there aren’t many females doing it. I’ve always had a love for music with having a background in majorette style dance, So I knew it was something that I could be successful at. Anyone that knows me personally knows that I LOVE to have a good time. I’ve ALWAYS been the life of the party. So it was only right to take up a career as a DJ (in my opinion). Although I haven’t made it very far, I’ve still done a lot for the short amount of time that I’ve started this career. I’m only a year and a half in but I am a fast learner so that has helped a lot. DJing is NOT as easy as it seems and there is A LOT to know if you want to be the best and of course I want to be amongst the best. So it takes times to perfect it and really understand what you’re doing and how to do it smoothly. Having patience as I perfect my craft has carried me a long way. Just being determined to show people that I can do it and be successful at it has helped me A TON!! Lessons that I’ve learned so far would be to invest in yourself. Takes money to make money, especially in certain careers & mine being one of them. Make your own connections. Always network because you never know who you’re talking to, what/who they may know or need. I want the world to know that I’m just getting started and I don’t plan on stopping!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well being from Atlanta, you can find many things to do especially these days. So here’s the itinerary starting from Monday. Day 1 is always a rest day on any trip because of course you’re probably gonna be tired from traveling and hanging out in Atlanta, you need all the energy you can get. Day 2, visit a museum (many to pick from) and later taco Tuesday preferably one with karaoke. Day 3, go to an early show at the fox theater (I love broadway) and walk to the nearest lunch spot after, later salsa lessons and lice latin music. Something different. Day 4, attend a day party (food and drinks), chill, take a nap and go to a sip and pain later that evening. Day 5, visit the ponce city market and beltline, nap of course and go to a hookah spot later. Day 6, Spend the day in the city (Ferris wheel, streetcar, shopping, restaurants) and go to adult skate night from 11:30-2:30. Last day Sunday funday, gotta go to brunch of course, a lit on at that!

There are soooo many places to go in Atlanta, especially restaurants. Generally I would go on Tik Tok and pick a restaurant from there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my parents first and foremost. I wouldn’t be here without them and I’m just so grateful for the both of them. MAJOR SHOUTOUT to my baby girl, Camille, of course she is my main motivation. Shoutout to my brother and sister for always being there and supporting me. To the rest of my family and close friends. I love each and every one of you guys. I also have to recognize all the DJ’s who have ever helped me no matter how big or small or had any part in me getting booked. Forever grateful!
