Meet Chioma | Youth Percussionist & Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chioma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chioma, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is challenging myself and being creative with how I express what’s inside of me. I practice a lot because I love drumming and I have team of incredible people around me that support my growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is kujichagulia or self-determination. I have an inner fire that calls me to sharpen my craft. Most people see it in my consistent drumming because I like to practice and I create videos that track my progress @goodgoddrums on IG. My hope is to inspire other youth like me. I believe that it was sharing my progress on social media that caught the attention of casting producers with America’s Got Talent, which led to an awesome experience for me and Atlanta Drum Academy to star on the show in 2023.
So far, the road to success has been fun but it’s not been without its challenges. I’ve had to trust the process and overcome performance anxiety while appearing on big stages. I also have very high expectations for myself so my family reminds me that there is no rush in achieving my goals and that they are proud of me for just being a great person! This lesson reminds me that I am great because of who I am, not for what I do.
I want the world to know that the future of percussion is safe with me and the youth of today! This art form is alive and well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were inviting friends to visit, I’d definitely tell them to join me at Altitude trampoline park for jumping around, Truist Park for shopping and eating, Tassili’s Raw Realities for their incredible kale wraps. I would also recommend Rodney’s Jamaican cuisine in Cobb. Their food is super yummy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to recognize my amazing family for supporting my dreams and creating pathways towards my success. I would also like to thank Atlanta Drum Academy for teaching me the art of drumming and performing. The discipline they provide helps me to strengthen my skills.
