We had the good fortune of connecting with Chi Osian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chi, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want to be remembered for Unapologetically expressing myself through my art and my work. People will remember me for being unique because my work doesnt stand in with the crowd. I want all young black creatives to know that the world needs our art. its okay to be different and ride your own wave. i want to inspire generations to create and express themselves unapologetically and it starts with me. Im consistent, and hardworking . I am Nigerian and I’m a first generation in this country. So making a mark and name for myself is huge.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a self taught videographer & photographer. My work is unique because my work doesnt stand in with the crowd. I want all young black creatives to know that the world needs our art. its okay to be different and ride your own wave. Me believing in myself also. I never doubted myself, of course the journey is tuff, but I kept going open doors or closed doors. I persevered through times. I also shadowed on sets with many directors coming up. I would drive an hour to Atlanta from college just to be on sets to be bts, photographer or videographer. I was able to watch, listen and learn many things just from each sets. Every single set was always different so there was always room for newer improvements towards my craft. Without drive and motivation I would not be able to be where I am at. I learned whatever you put your mind to, you can do it . I wake up everyday and think of new ways to improve my craft. I watch youtube videos on editing just to have different styles and ways to combine effects. I learned to never give up and be consistent. My creative process is different. I never wanted my work to look the same as the next photographer or videographer so I would aim to make my work stand out in some way. So it is recognized different and brings attention.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to get some food from JJ’s or the boiler. Then I would take them to a couple creative studios around and on some production sets so they can see first hand what goes on.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to shoutout to a couple people who played a role in my success. My brother definitely supported me from the beginning and pushes me to improve on my craft. He always told me never to give up. And can’t forget about the directors that I worked with who took me on sets with them and showed me the ropes. Also Shout-out to Director creed. Special shout-out to my best friend Aamiri. He has always encouraged me and believed in me from the beginning. He always tells me to never give up and to never settle for good.
