We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlotte Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlotte, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’m pursuing an artistic career because I’m an artist. I love music, I love putting together sounds and creating melodies. It allows me to be vulnerable, and true to self, while also connecting with other people that can relate.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I don’t like to really put myself in a box, I’m a creative, but most would categorize my music as R&B/Soul or “Trap Soul.” I’m still experimenting with my voice, but I believe what sets me apart is my sound, my tone, and my look. I’m most proud of my first single “Sunshine” peaking #103 at R&B radio and getting placements with BET SOUL, and other DSP platforms. I’m most excited about people discovering my music, and finding me for the first time. I’m looking forward to working with established producers and songwriters to help continue developing my sound. I was working sales at a call center in NYC and mentally wasn’t in a good headspace and needed an outlet. I found a beat on Youtube from North Carolina producer, Axthentic, gravitated towards it and started writing on my lunch break. I recorded the song on my phone in my living room and sent the raw vocals to my friend Sway, my engineer. When she sent it back, I shared it with a couple people, the response was great so I felt confident enough to drop it, from then, SevvTheArtist was born. It was easy to just put it out, but the follow-up, the visuals, the what’s next after this is where I found challenges. I’m continuing to learn more about the business, though I’m hyper focused on the creative side, I’m building a team than can handle everything else. I’m learning it’s a process, it takes a team to see and execute the vision. I want the world to know my story, to embrace my art and to connect with it. I want girls that look like me to see themselves and to stay true and authentic to who they are.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my lady, my partner, my manager, my best friend, Nika Ya Luv. She’s been there from the very beginning, championing me to become an artist and to take my brand seriously. I don’t thank her enough. I’d also shout out my moms, Trudy Jackson and Mama Pam, they’ve been nothing but supportive during this musical journey.
