We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Within the last couple of years, I’ve come to love the phrase “The only way to get through it is to get through it.” Whether you’re dealing with obstacles, challenges, or hardships, the only thing you can do is keep going. Sure, take some time to feel your feelings, but you will have to keep going to see what’s waiting on the other side.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My story isn’t anything special. I work a standard 9-5 marketing job, and started my blogs on the side. My degree is super basic (Business Management). Professionally, I learned a lot on the job. I’m not a YouTube watcher or podcast listener, but you can find me taking every online course I can and reading whatever articles I get my hands on. Working hard is never easy, but it’s almost always worth it.

As for my brand and my story, I have two pieces of advice.
1. Find your passion. For me, I love reading and books. I also love weddings and organization and baking and cooking. Thus, a blog made the most sense.
2. Just tell your story. Do I have the largest community of readers? No. Have I gone viral for something? Also no. However, at the end of the day, I keep writing. It’s my story, but sometimes the stories of others. You don’t have to be the next rising influencer to make a difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big fan of animals, so I always enjoy a trip to the zoo and/or aquarium. Since we have enough time in this hypothetical trip, I would head down to Savannah and the coast. River Street is always a good time. Plus, you’re close enough to St. Simons too. In the off season, beaches are quiet and ideal.

For food, I’d recommend South City Kitchen. Some of my family members are vegan, so I’d add R. Thomas and Sunflower Cafe to the list too. You have to stop at Revolution Donuts, and then grab a beer and walk around Krog Street Market.

Depending on the season, you’d have to catch a baseball game at Truist Park or a football (or soccer) game at Mercedes Benz stadium.

If you’re looking for alcohol, I love Reformation Brewery. Their flagship location in Woodstock is great, but their location in Canton is in this cute up and coming area with shops and restaurants. If you’re interested in a drive, head up to Ellijay and go to Engelheim Vineyards and Panorama Orchards (a little shop full of delicious food, condiments, ice cream, etc.).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started blogging back in 2016 after going through a rough breakup. I had a ton of time on my hands and needed an outlet to express myself and share my story. I would not be where I am or know what I do without one of my best friends, Kate. She’s a blogger at A Thought & A Half (her own blog). She got started way before I did, and helped me get up and running. She made recommendations and was patient with me as I had a million questions. Over the years, she has continued to be a sounding board and creative brainstorm-er whenever I need her. I’m grateful for all of the help she’s given me. (PS. If you need blog or branding help, hit her up. She’s the best.)
