We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron Nelson (Chef Luck) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Byron, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Cooking to me was a way for me to show how fun food is and can be to people who don’t do it regularly. Putting different ingredients together to make one amazing dish fascinated me. Once I learned that you can mix the flavors and give someone’s tongue a joyful experience I was in. Food truly is the Key to Everyone’s Heart and I love warming them!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cooking is a fun way to express myself. Nothing brings joy to my heart like picking up my knife and seeing what I can create today. The responses I get are like no other and it proves I’m supposed to do this. I feel I’m the best, yes I know there are others out but in my mind I’m my only competition. I feel that’s what makes me different. People say it’s arrogance but if you don’t believe in yourself then who will. My first job was in a steak house at 17! I also took a home economics class in school. Culinary school was what I wanted to do but I put it off for some years. It wasn’t till I was 25 when I said “BYRON it’s time to start focusing on what you want your career to be”. So I enrolled and it’s been a great time since. I’ve learned so much during my culinary journey and I have more to learn. But one lesson my BestFriend Sierra said to me was “Never sell yourself for less , know your worth own your worth” Also handouts are not giving you got to get out here and grind and never get taken advantage of (tho it has happened).

Jusyourluck is my baby. It came from my nickname being Luckii. So whenever someone would ask me to cook I’m like you’re lucky I’m free so I was just like wow it’s Just Your Luck I’m available. So that became the name and the slogan is “Blessed N Highly Flavored” why ? Cause god blesses me each day and these hands and I don’t skip out on the flavor in my dishes

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well My Bestfriend Now lives here so for us , going out to nice restaurants is just fine with us. We can ride around and view the city long as we got some great tunes!! But on the contrary some places I love being in Atl are the Battery, I love a good crab place so Juicy Crab, Coca Cola factory. The aquarium. And visiting atl wouldn’t be visiting if you didn’t find a nice wing joint for your lemon pepper steppers and maybe a trip to Magic City LOL

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Parents will always get all the love and praise because they believed in me. My friends the few I have ,have been the most supportive people ever and if nobody else books they do. GOD IS ALWAYS THE GOAT SO HE GETS PRAISE EVERYDAY ALL DAY!
