We had the good fortune of connecting with Bucky Bassette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bucky, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever made was joining the military. Up until that point my life was a roller coaster. I knew I needed structure and discipline in my life and I fought it for long until I couldn’t any longer. It was a difficult decision but the best decision at the time.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From November 2010 until November 2019, I was in the United States Navy. Prior to that I was in college balancing work and school until it became too much. Joining the Navy was the best decision for my life. While serving I knew that I wanted to finish school and leave with my degree. I was able to finish my service time with 3 degrees but I felt something was missing. One night while laying in bed I began to pray and ask God, “Why am I here, what is my purpose in life?” I searched comedy clubs and signed up for my first open mic and I’ve never looked back. Stand-up comedy was it, it was where I felt I needed to be and belonged. It has opened the doors to so many opportunities I would have never even though about. I chase my dreams daily and I would tell anyone who is eager to figure out your purpose or passion to ASK, whomever you believe in. Most importantly believe in yourself and block out all of the noise.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being that I do alot of standup comedy. The week would start off at Uptown Comedy Corners Monday night comedy show. Tuesday would be either Kats Cafe or Laughing Skull Lounge. Wednesday would be comedy at Smiths Olde Bar. Thursday would be dinner and comedy at Atlanta comedy theatre. Friday we could have lunch at Ponce City Market and more comedy at Atlanta comedy theatre. If it’s first Friday Underground Atlanta has vendors and live music downtown. Weekend would consist of touring Stone Mountain Park, Centennial Olympic Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I want to thank God for always watching over me. I want to thank my family for being my support system. I want to also thank the Navy and everyone that made a meaningful impact on my life. I want to thank any and everyone who has provided any encourage or a word of advice when I needed it.
