We had the good fortune of connecting with Brody Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brody, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is what life is all about. I 100% believe in taking risks and living life to the fullest as well as on the edge. One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received was to never stop taking risks. Get out into the world. Make a complete mess of life. Try new things. Go places you’ve only dreamed of. Fall in love. Whether it be with a person, a city, or just a way of life. For me, taking risks was the only way to live. The risks I have taken up until now seem so countless and so significant. They have heavily influenced my life, career, and everything in between. I have lived a very remarkable life and my camera has been there with me to capture it all.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ever since I was a kid, I have loved photographs. Whether taking them or just studying them in amazement. I remember taking my camera everywhere and then going to the local drugstore store with my grandmother to get my film developed. A true passion from the start. But I didn’t start pursuing photography as a career until much later. I started out shooting street photography and taking photos of my close friends. Much of my early work is printed and compiled into mini zines that I often refer back to. After about two years of shooting, I knew that I would have to get out of my hometown to really flourish as an artist and truly find my style. Atlanta has some of the most talented photographers out there. So it is only right that I ended up here. I jumped in head first. I began shooting the city and collaborating with anyone I could. Within a short period, I began networking with some of the best photographers in the city. It kept me motivated and hungry knowing that success could be right around the corner. The journey has not been easy by no means but it has been worth it. All the come-ups and let-downs have gotten me to this point. I have learned to never stop grinding no matter what. Today, I feel like I am right where I need to be. I started my own photography company this year – Brody Got Shots Photography. I have succeeded in broadening my experience as well as my client base. I have developed my own unique style and have learned to embrace it. I have created some of my best work living here. So I am mostly excited to see how all my experiences continue to influence me and my work. My story and my brand are far from perfect but I don’t strive to be. I find beauty in what others have written off or counted out. Imperfection is perfection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a wonderful city with so many things to do. Brunch in the city at places such as Egg Harbor Cafe, Breakfast at Barney’s, Atlanta Breakfast Club, and Snooze. Bar hopping in the heart of Midtown – Bulldogs, Henry’s, Blake’s on the Park, and Zocalo. Visiting city staples such as the Georgia Aquarium, Skyview Atlanta, Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlantic Station, High Museum of Art, and the Fox Theatre. It is also fun to venture outside the city to attend a Braves game at The Battery, spend the day out at Stone Mountain Park, and or go shopping at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville. Lastly, but certainly not least – Sunday Funday! Unlike other cities. The city is alive like no other. If you visit ATL, always make sure you stay until Monday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I first want to give a Shoutout to Jared Winston helping give me the chance to share my story with Shoutout Atlanta. I also want to thank you the City of Atlanta for helping me flourish into the photographer I am today. I discovered my talent and true potential here. Lastly but certainly not least, I want to thank every single last person and place that allowed me to capture its beauty. You make living my dream possible.
