Meet Brittney Deshields | Business Owner & Dog Groomer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Deshields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks are hard and scary, yet fulfilling and satisfying. You will never know until you try. Before I started Major Paws I was grooming 40 hours a week for a company and I wasn’t satisfied. Barely making ends meet, tired, and over it! I decided one day as I was about to clock in that I didn’t want to do this anymore. That was 2020 and the last time I worked for anyone. Taking risks are essential and beneficial if we want to grow. Take that leap!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mobile dog grooming company named after my first German Shepard “Major”. Getting to this point has not been easy. I’ve worked over 25 dead end jobs trying to find myself and figure out what I wanted out of life and dog grooming fell right into my lap. Running a business has taught me that small victories matter just as much as the big ones.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been in Charlotte since 1999. The city has definitely grown so in 2022 there are a bunch more options. Breakfast is my favorite meal but I am not a morning person. Let’s say for brunch we will go to First Watch, Famous Toastry, Tupelo Honey, or Original House of Pancakes (OHOP). After breakfast we would go do some activities. Definitely would have to take my friend to Frankies or Dave and Busters. We would go do some shopping at Concord Mills or Carolina Place Mall. For dinner we would go get pizza from Tony’s, or a crab cake from Lulu’s. Charlotte has a bunch of sports so we could catch a game. Uptown area has museums, Noda has art and eateries. The Boardwalk is a nice place to relax in the evenings and grab a bite of food. Crowders Moutain is a nice hike and very rewarding once we reach the top.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Caneisha- she has been my secretary and personal assistant free of charge. I couldn’t run this business without her.
