We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany E’Lan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Around the time we decided to try for a baby we started changing our lifestyle. We were buying mostly plant derived products. However, I was never fully satisfied with the soap selection. Honestly, I hated all the scents. I didn’t want to smell like cedarwood and lavender. I wanted to still smell like mangos and lemonade when I was in the shower lol, or something that wasn’t so “earthy” scented. So I said I’ll just make it! Did over a years worth of research before I actually bought my supplies. Once my supplies arrived I made a Facebook post asking if my friends and family would buy my soaps and the responses were great. Built my website myself and I’ve been having constant sells every week since January 12th,2020. I’ve almost sold products in every state in the US. I have products in a barbershop in Charleston SC. I have customers in Okinawa Japan as well. It truly makes me happy to create different concepts and see people’s reactions and get their feedback.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that my soaps are all inspired my people in my life. My concepts are all a mosaic from things that remind me of people I know and love. For instance my men’s soap “Daddy” is named that because the scent is from the cologne that I remember my dad wearing throughout my childhood. My soap “Baby Baby” came from my God Mom giving that nickname to my son because she couldn’t figure the appropriate title to call him lol. I literally make my soaps with love and truest intentions.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t been here that long but I definitely have a list of restaurants that I absolutely love. I’m an outdoor person so we’d do a picnic in the park, maybe a couple hiking trails, hot air balloons are huge here also. The butterfly wonderland was a super cool experience, have a pool party at my place, get massages at my place. I also love to host so maybe I’d cook and have a game night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family for sure! Both my sides and my in laws have been my biggest supporters and my cheerleaders! I get most of my sales from word of mouth and when I see orders from names I don’t recognize it’s mostly because someone in my family referred my website to them. I’ve had people who’ve never heard of me spend hundreds of dollars on the first buy because my family hypes me up for sure!
