We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Harrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the time when I was working full time at a credit union and going to school full time, photography was just a side hustle. I started to realize I was making more and more money. I decided to then start the process of going full time by quitting school and my full time job. I didn’t know where to start with having a business so I utilized the skills I learned from banking and applied it to my new job as business owner.

What should our readers know about your business?
With my photography business, I provide high quality product images for skincare and makeup companies. My clients utilize the images I capture for marketing and advertising purposes in stores and online. With my current process of completing a project, clients ship me their product, I stylize the images in the creative direction they would like to go and retouch once complete. My business has grown to where it is today because of social media and word of mouth. When the covid pandemic began, I though I was out of work. but just a couple weeks later when businesses started figuring things out, the amount of bookings skyrocketed because companies were in need of images to promote their products online.

There were times where I ran into hiccups such as clients not paying me on time which cause a little bit of a financial constraint. It was definitely challenging but I knew if I kept pushing, everything will work out in the end.

With being a photographer or artist in general, you know the art side but many don’t know the business side too well. This is an aspect that I continue to learn about daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With being in NYC, there are so many places to visit. For food, I love going to Black Tap for gourmet milkshakes, Juniors for some cheese cake, and most importantly Catch Steak for a fine steak dinner. For my favorite areas in the city to hang out, West Village is very chill as well as Williamsburg for an evening out with friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to my managers of where I worked as well as my partner for supporting me every step of the way. I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today without them helping me grow as a person, learning the skills behind customer service, operations and believing in me.
