We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonnie-Gayle Sparks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bonnie-Gayle, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I don’t really know how to give up… it’s just not who I am. I’ve put all my eggs in one basket, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it forces me to keep going. I’ve never had a fall-back or a plan B. Acting is it for me.

I’ve wanted to be an actor ever since I was about 6 years old. I saw my mother acting in commercials and local films around Austin and I desperately wanted to start acting then but I was debilitatingly shy. Fast forward to age 22 and finally worked up the courage to take my very first acting class. That was 10 years ago and I haven’t stopped since.

I overcame challenges mostly just by being stubborn as hell. Anytime someone told me I couldn’t do it, it would drive me further into it. With every “no” I got, I knew it put me one step closer to the next “yes”. Quitting has never been on the table for me. I just keep going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I like to stay productive even in times of rest. Right now, with the strikes happening, it’s a fantastic time for me to continue training, take workshops, travel, and get everything in my life in order outside of my career. A lot of actors can neglect the rest of their life in pursuit of this job, but in reality, acting is just one facet to your life.

I’m also editing my first short film right now that my husband wrote and we both star in. And I have another project that I’m writing/directing/staring in as well that’s in its very beginning phase.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to say thank you to my husband and fellow actor, Vance Sparks. He’s been my biggest supporter and cheerleader, making it possible for me to come as far as I have. There’s just no way I could’ve done it without him.
