We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Starr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby, why did you pursue a creative career?
Well, ideally for me, I always just desired to be successful at something. There was never a purpose in recreating the exact Life, that my mom was working so hard to get me out of. So considering our circumstances since birth it was always a if not you then who kind of thing.

I grew up in North New Jersey until I was 12 years old so just like many of us my first dream or ideal life goal was to be a successful basketball player. Although in the back of my mind, the idea of being an actor did have my attention as well. I honestly believe; if I was able to learn from a successful actor or actress as a child, I probably never would have pursued basketball as far as I did. That’s just how huge my interest was at the time; although I was aware that I was very good at basketball too.

I was about seven or eight when I did my first play and although the role was as simple as an angel in a Christmas play. It was enough for me to want to experience more out of this industry.
I was about nine years old when I realized I really wanted to pursue the arts if I could.
So when my family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina when I was 12 years old; by that time, not only was basketball something that I could be successful at; but becoming an actor was something I could definitely end up doing too.

When I went to college in 2016, I had already been in multiple short films, music videos, & stage plays so I made the decision to lay what did exist of an athletic career to rest & to fully pursue becoming the best actor I could possibly be. So, I, then minored in theater and majored in international business administration. In 2018 that’s when the nickname “Hollywood Bob” became a social media influencer as I began releasing skits multiple times a week and receiving millions of views worldwide.

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to be in a feature film and cast a lead role in a fairly popular television show. Nevertheless, I am still working just as hard if not harder now than I was before to make it to into that position many would view as an ideal successful actor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It honestly amazes me how God does things so mysteriously. When I look back at it my teenage years I realize how God began to guide my footsteps well before I knew what was actually happening.

During my freshman year in high school, I had the opportunity to meet & become very close friends with a hip-hop artist coming out of Charlotte, NC, who goes by the name, Milan Hightower. In 2013 I was afforded the opportunity to join the promotional team; so all throughout high school and majority of my college experience I was able to travel, host parties, and attend many studio sessions with this artist & his brothers which are in fact just as talented. Fast forward to 2018, I was blessed to able to attend the BET awards with Milan & his management team. Upon the conclusion of that amazing weekend & after receiving many blessings of wisdom through various life changing conversations the journey of “Hollywood Bob” began.

I was ready to begin the next chapter of my life. Having been able to be a part of something and watch it grow in real time was the real blessing all along. As I stated before, I always wanted to be a part of the TV and film industry. So once it was all physically in front of me, it became clear that this is the space that God has created me for.

Even though I may not have had the direct, nurturing into this business as a child, it became evident that God placed people in my life that would lead me to the very place that would become the beginning of my own journey in this business.

Before I knew it, by 2020 my social media presence had grown a substantial buzz. The ironic thing about all of this was that I never considered myself to be the funny guy, but it became evidently clear that I might be.

Between consistently releasing comedy skits on TikTok, posting videos on YouTube, and working with my acting coaches; I find myself no longer just praying for a successful career, but actively working towards having a successful career.

Understanding my faith in God would be the world understanding me. As long as i portray myself correctly, my brand will exude everything that I am. Also realizing the biggest step into becoming, is waiting your turn. I’ve seen a lot of people block their blessings in my opinion just by being jealous or envious toward any thing when all in all God has the final say. A purpose on one’s life is divine. All we can do is pray and allow God to order our footsteps. Many of us would be amazed at how good God can get. Living in your now is way more beneficial than living with regret.

For me to get to the place that I am now professionally, I did & still do two things. The first thing I do is pray consistently. My relationship with God is everything to me. I knew as a child what I was asking God to do in my life had never been seen before, unless it was already published. So just to be growing in this field is an overwhelming feeling of appreciation for the relationship that I’ve had with him. Secondly I show up every day. I enjoy creating. I enjoy working toward the idea of building something bigger. To me there are no limits. I’ve never met a great doctor that didn’t enjoy science. Many of us forget that every new level of success requires ideally more work. So we all should get real comfortable in doing more of what’s required of us in whatever fields we may work in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My go to spot has to be a tourist pillar in Atlanta, the Escobar Lounge. Considering my love for hip-hop when I found out it was owned by 2 Chainz, I had to check it out. Now, I’ve been there more times than I can count. I’d be doing anybody who’s not from the south a disservice if I didn’t mention JJ’s chicken and fish. I wasn’t raised in Atlanta, but I’m sure nobody from here would tell you not to go there. You honestly can’t go wrong with fried chicken & fish. Lastly, I’d suggest The Apache restaurant and bar, the food & service was great. Although Atlanta really has plenty of spots that are a very credible. Whether you’re from Atlanta or not you know the food and the energy is top tier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well, first of all without my relationship with God nothing I have experienced or will experience could be possible. So I must acknowledge that.

Over the years there’s been so many amazing people that I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Granted the village that it takes to keep me going does not go unnoticed; I must also acknowledge the team of individuals that God has placed in my life. Between my immediate friends & family, to my coach George Lott (CEO of The WHOA Agency), my colleagues William Jefferson Jr., Ace Small, & social media influencer Ty Gibson; they all play a major part in my career. These individuals inspire me every single day. It’s not often, that you meet people that believe in you well before there is evidence of results and for that I am truly grateful.
