We had the good fortune of connecting with Bee Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always loved the fashion industry. When I was younger I loved watching Top Model and would practice in the mirror. When I first started buying my own clothing my confidence was boosted and I felt more comfortable in my skin. I started to express myself and get to know my own personality. A pivotal moment was the day I saw a Gucci advertisement on the back of a Vogue magazine. It was like a scene from a movie. I fell in love with the artistry of how everything was put together. That’s when I decided I would go into fashion doing set design and wardrobe. I feel fashion has many ways of inspiring, entertaining, and making people feel good. I want passion to be a part of my work, that way, people can feel it,

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a fashion stylist. I handle all things wardrobe whether it’s personal styling or personal shopping. I also provide looks for media such as magazines, advertising, portfolios, etc. I enhance people’s image and encourage them to embrace themselves, not change themselves. I’m a friend to my clients, so they are comfortable enough to share how they feel and what their vision is. I understand how it is the be vulnerable with someone else advising your wardrobe. I always like to have fun and I never push any looks on my clients. Being comfortable is the key to confidence. Fashion is fun and is about being able to express oneself. It was not easy to get to where I am today and it’s always an ongoing journey. I got to this point by perseverance, believing in myself and the ideas I felt in my heart. Being inspired by the success of many icons in the fashion industry such as June Ambrose or Yves Saint Laurent and others who have faced adversity helps me with confidence in my journey. I’ve overcome many obstacles like money issues, confusion, not knowing where to go next, and that has caused sadness at times. Still, I’m proud and I know that there are still more challenges ahead of me. Keeping hope even when it’s dark is easier said than done but remembering your passion gives strength. I’m most proud of starting a company and building a clientele that trusts me. I’m proud to be appreciated by people in my community. My future is bright. I’ve learned that planning is essential, following through in this industry and developing relationships with your peers are key. My brand is one that celebrates fashion, style and people. One that understands that everyone has their own personal style. Im humble, yet fabulous and I feel it’s my job to show people how lovely they are.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Well, since I’m from the Eastside I’d definitely start here first. Little five points has some of the best spots for unique shopping there’s a wide selection of great styles. Vintage options are popular there with thrift stores including things like jewelry and records besides clothing. Also artists come to promote their art so you may hear music, poetry or see some artwork etc. It’s an artistic environment. Edgewood is a nice place to go for night life. There are a lot of bars and a small performance venue / small club. It’s a cool atmosphere. Moreland Ave has an old school drive-in movie theatre. Atlantic station is a great go-to place for shopping, food and fun. Sometimes there are events on the lawn such as day movies and they have great restaurants there and around the area with a lot of variety. Busy Bee’s has great soul food I’d definitely go there. JJ crickets is an Atlanta favorite known for hot wings and drinks. Centennial park is a great place to hang out on a beautiful day when the fountains are on. The Ferris wheel at Sky View is very close by and is a great view of the park and the city. Lenox is another great place to shop and offers more high end items same as the Shoppes at Buckhead. Peters Street has a couple of bars that can get hype depending on the night. Really riding through downtown, finding your next move is sometimes the best part because there’s so much to do in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, God. I couldn’t be doing this without him. Allen Sims @jswayplayer who was my main photographer and always supporting me. One of the most consistent models at the start of my career, Gerube Valdez @ms_model_ruby. Toni @heytoni_ a great stylist who helped me when I first started styling.
