We had the good fortune of connecting with Azzie Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Azzie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think Entrepreneurship is the scariest thing in the world and the greatest thing in the world but it’s not for everybody. Starting your own business takes discipline, vision, failure, heartbreak, and risk, I could go on and on, but these are some of the things that come with starting a business. But consistency is the key to your success. So don’t waste your life fulfilling someone else’s dream, invest in yours.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a creative, I pride myself on being myself and staying consistent in being myself. In the entertainment industry, it’s so easy to follow a trend or fad because that’s what “Seems” to be cool or popular. But the real flex is staying true to what makes you who you are and not changing because that’s where the wind happens to be blowing at that moment. I’ve been told that my work has a style and aesthetic, I don’t see that, but I’m not supposed to because I’m just creating the only way I know how to. But when other people recognize your style and your approach to things, that’s when you know you’re in your lane and you’re doing things that are uniquely yourself.

Of course, the downside is that so many people are not going to like or understand your creative approach and you are going to get a ton of no’s but if you stay consistent you’ll get that “yes” and that’s all you need. One “yes” can change your life so why not put everything you have into your craft?

Die empty, when you leave this world have no regrets. Don’t take your last breath wishing you would have done more with your life. Die empty!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a great question, being from NYC there are always things to do at all hours and every day of the week. I’m not a planner or an itinerary type of guy, I truly live in the moment. So if my friend was visiting I would just see what was happening that day and make it happen. There are very few cities in the world where you can do this, and fortunately, NYC is one of them.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my Mother Seleana and my brother Brent. Sadly they are no longer with us but they both had a significant influence on the person I am today.
