We had the good fortune of connecting with Avia Cumberbatch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create generational wealth for my children. We didn’t come from money and I wanted to teach my children the importance of becoming financial independent. Not many people I know who are employees have created wealth for their families and if so it isn’t until they are ready to retire. Until then they have no freedom and live paycheck to paycheck.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I help individuals and business owners put together financial game plans to achieve their goals and dreams. My mission is to help create 100,000 financially independent leaders who teach others how to achieve financial freedom through financial education. I am most proud of teaching middle school and high school students how investing works and giving back to help others in my community. I have been blessed that my business is mainly referral based that one happy client is referring me to another potential happy client. My client’s are not just client’s they are my extended family that is what makes us different. We focus on putting the client’s needs first and through a serious of questions that focuses on what they want. Then we develop their financial game plan. It is not always easy being in business for yourself but if you have a purpose bigger than you and you love what you do that is what makes it worth it everyday. I have learned to lead by example meaning I believe in what I do and I am my first and best client.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her to the National Harbor and see a show. We would go to dinner at Bond 45 or Crab Cake Cafe and walk around the beautiful pier. It is very clean and upscale but their are so many things to do in one place like get a drink after the show. They usually have outside entertainment as well which is really fun. At night the place is so beautiful illuminated with lights and the Ferris Wheel is a lot of fun you can see everything from high in the sky.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has always taught me by her own work ethic to work hard and believe in my dreams. She was a single Mom and raised me on her own. We always had food on the table and a roof over our heads at night. The first book that was a pivotal turning point for me straight out of college that changed my life was Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. He really helped me to understand the wealth gap and why most people never achieve financial freedom in life. They work for over 40-50 years and still are not able to have enough money to fully retire and enjoy life. Life is not about being stressed everyday over money. That book taught me all it takes is small sacrifices that can change your financial destiny.
