We had the good fortune of connecting with freaky focus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi freaky focus, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The goal is financial freedom. Letting my money make more money so I can get to a point where I have disposable income. With that being the goal, I couldn’t see myself accomplishing that working for someone else. And on top of that, as an artist, having my own business grants me freedom in my schedule to do events and shows or whatever else I want to do without having to worry about taking off from work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music is what drives me initially. Everything starts there. Being independent and doing everything on my own, I’ve been learning more and more about the behind the scenes structure and realizing I needed to create a system to handle all the different business and money aspects of this field. When you want to make music or be a creative for a living, you have to ask yourself “how can I make this make money?” Every loss is a lesson and learn from every mistake. The best teacher is experience. All that sounded so cliché but it’s definitely true. For several reasons.. First of all the more you do something the better you get at it, point blank. But on top of that, the more you mess up the more you learn what not to do. The more money you spend the more you learn how to save money. The more people you meet the bigger your network gets.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you tryna enjoy the outdoors then walking the Beltline to Piedmont park on the weekends is always a vibe. There are always events and concerts at the park. For some nightlife fun you gotta go bar hopping on Edgewood. Long Live Trouble and if you #livinglikeSkoob make sure you stop in Our Bar ATL to take a shot! Other than that, there’s always something to do in the A. Going out and exploring new and random spots and finding new gems is part of the fun. Plus you get you some bragging rights, like “look what I found!”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Really wanna take this opportunity to shoutout family. I wouldn’t be here without them. Your family will have your back over any and everybody. My mom doesn’t listen to my music and still paid for a couple beats. My brother pays for studio time every now and then. Family gives the kind of support where no matter what you are doing they want to see you win.
