We had the good fortune of connecting with Atom BLK and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Atom, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have been creating my entire life. I have always wanted to have a job that would allow me to create. As a kid I wanted to design planes for the navy. As a teen I loved fashion and music so I thought I was going to be the next Jay-Z with my very own Rocafella. Now as a man I have found my purpose through photography.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If you look at my photos you get a sense of warmth. That’s my personality shining through. I got to this point in my career through sheer determination and perseverance. There were no breaks. No times I stepped back from photography. I have been griding diligently over the years to become the creator that I am today. Being this consistent isn’t easy but I’m dedicated and I have a goal to reach. Throughout the years I had to learn how to network and build relationships because naturally I’m and introvert at heart. I would love to just hang out on the couch watching Netflix all day but I know greatness is on the other side of my comfort zone. My brand is all about making your vision come true. Whatever thoughts you may have give them to me and we will make sure that they come to fruition.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We definitely have to go to midtown lounge for drinks. The Dray bar and grill would be fire for dinner. We definitely have to go to the Spartanburg Art Museum for a little art culture. Hatcher Garden is a place we would go for a nice outdoor shoot and walk. Tnt hot wings is a must for the best wings in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As cliche as it might sound, I have to shoutout God. A few years ago, I had the wildest dream that led me on a path to where I am now. Long story short God told me my purpose was to make sure the people I encountered always used their God given talent. Next is definitely my mom. She has always been my first and biggest fan. My wife is the one that suggested that I buy my first camera many years ago. Back then I was still doing music the camera was going to be a way for me to create content for my work. My work with Jetlag TV pushed me to shoot very often. I was doing 3-4 photoshoots a week and doing write ups on artists. That constant work made me as good as I am today.
