We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlee Maltbia-Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashlee, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks can be very scary. But that’s what I love about it, The unknown has so much beauty in it. Taking risks has caused me to live a less fearful life. I’ve had moments where I took a risk and failed, but I learned from it. I’ve also had moments where I’ve taken a risk and come out on top. You can’t own your own business and not be willing to take a risk it will never work out. You’ll miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t force anything. I don’t put out garments just for the hell of it. If I create something and it ends up not feeling right to me I just won’t release it. I believe that’s what allows me to be successful when I do decide to put a product out. The thought behind the fabric, the sustainability of the garment, can a customer get multiple wears out of it? This part is not easy. You go through different fabrics, blanks, printing companies until you find what fits your brand need. Sometimes these processes can be extensive. Patience is key you can’t rush when you know your goal is to provide quality. I’ve learned that comparison is the thief of joy. Doing my own thing is what keeps me happy. if there is anything I would want the world to know about my brand is that because it means so much to me I am always going to put my best foot forward and give it my best. TILLER is all about positivity and being, doing, and feeling good because tomorrow is not promised.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Me and my best friend Love to have fun and most of the time that includes great food and great cocktails. Sunday we are doing lunch at Nueva Laredo. They have the best Mexican food and Margaritas in the city. Monday Night we would enjoy a nice cocktail at one of my favorite speakeasies “The James Room” the ambiance is laid back and the drinks are always A1. Tuesday we are going for a bike ride on the beltline, cycling is one of my favorite hobbies. Wednesday a nice breakfast at “Thumbs Up” is a must, I highly recommend the catfish and spuds. Thursday a trip to Ponce City Market would be cool. There is a store there called “The Village Retail Store” they have items from different creatives around the city it’s a nice place to grab an item or two to take home. Friday “Joe’s on Juniper” is a hit. Bar-style food and drinks and a great outdoor patio. Saturday we are relaxing because by this time I’d be worn out. Atlanta has so much to see which makes each visiting experience different and that’s what I Love.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all of my supporters. When I first started TILLER it was scary. I asked myself “what if this fails, what if no one buys anything from me after the first release.” But each and every time I release a collection the support is unreal. Also when I say supporter I don’t mean customers. Supporters to me are those who repost my content, share my page with a friend, shout me out on social media, and push me in moments where I feel like I want to give up. Thank You to all my supporters it is because of you I stay motivated and excited to keep creating.
