We had the good fortune of connecting with Arnesis Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arnesis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always had an interest in photography. I was always around a camera, even at the young age of 7 I found myself having fun with my dad’s Polaroid. As I got older, I started getting into digital cameras and found I was the family member with a camera on hand at every gathering. Through the years my interest in photography kept growing and although it is not my primary career; my favorite pastime became my side business. The why- I love capturing memories for others as much as I’ve loved doing it for myself ever since I can remember.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A photograph has the same effect as a special song, your favorite dish, a particular smell..these all evoke memories and emotions of events in our life whether happy or sad..memorable moments nonetheless. My goal during a photo session is to create an environment in which everyone involved can feel at ease and relaxed, have a couple of laughs and just enjoy themselves in the moment. I’m always excited to hear about my client’s reactions once they receive their photos and about how they felt during our session. I typically ask to get tagged on any photos they post on social medial; it is very rewarding reading the positive reactions and comments they get from family and friends. The road to starting a small business as a self-taught photographer, while juggling your career and family life is not an easy one. It definitely takes many hours of work and dedication honing your craft. It took some time before I decided to venture out as a small business owner-photographer; partly because I’m mostly an introvert..although I manage to hide it well during photo sessions with my clients. Photography brings out the best in me. The most important lesson I’ve learned is that, putting in the time into what you love will always payoff; it is gratifying.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy food, so the first spot would probably be Ponce City Market! I love this place, it is a great hangout spot offering a taste of multiple cuisines, always a good time. Next would probably be a stroll around Centennial Park, I really enjoy the outdoors and its a nice park in the middle of the city. Someone can’t visit GA and not go to the aquarium; I’ve visited multiple times, but it never gets old. Definitely need to try a small breakfast spot out in my town, Dacula; the Brunch Apothecary is one of my favorite breakfast places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few people I can think of; however, two stand out- My mom, who has always encouraged me on everything I do. I remember a time I was working on a school project and I was relentless in pushing for her to buy me a video camera…until she finally budged! Love you MOM! The second person is my wife- she has been an amazing supporter as well as an invaluable critic of my work. She is awesome at spotting what may not be so obvious to me at times. THANK YOU!
