We had the good fortune of connecting with April Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
One of the most positive impacts that risk has had on my life and career is the confidence I’ve gained in trusting my own talents and abilities. Taking risks has also strengthened my faith. I vividly recall the challenging decision to relocate from my hometown of Detroit, MI, to Atlanta, GA. I was leaving behind my 863 beloved family members and moving to a city where I knew only eight people. At the time, I hadn’t secured a job, so the risk was significant. However, my drive and determination to succeed motivated me.

Looking back after eight years, I can confidently say that move was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

What should our readers know about your business?
April Renee Green is a Detroit native and proud graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School. She continued her passion for Marketing at Central State University. Her studies life experiences have helped to shape her expertise and passion. Her passion for bringing people together; creating exceptional event experiences; and making people happy.

Where did this passion begin? Her passion for event planning dates to her son turning five which was almost 19 years ago. Always one to have creative ideas, she had the brilliant idea to rent out a movie theater for a field trip for her son and his friends when her constant seeking provided no acceptable results. What began as a simple field trip to the theater ended in an entire theater rental This was just the beginning. The flame of creative planning has not wavered since.

With a career that spans over 20 years, Ms. Green has applied her skills across various industries. She spent 16 years as a Facilities Use Coordinator at Perfecting Church in Detroit, MI (under the leadership of Pastor Marvin L. Winans) where she coordinated and planned activities supporting a congregation of thousands. Additionally, April has worked on the Marketing Relations Committee during the 2006 NFL Super Bowl in Detroit, MI and again in 2019 in Atlanta, GA. She has partnered with Habitat for Humanity; worked with NBA All-Star Weekend; and supported the Taste of Soul Concert in Englewood, California headlined by Stevie Wonder. She currently works for Porex Corporation, a Filtration Group as their Logistics Site Manager in Atlanta, GA.

“An April Affair” Event Planning and Consulting was established in 2005. April knew she needed an avenue for her creativity to flow without restraint. It is her extensive experience and infectious personality that makes her a stand out and highly sought-after event planner. “An April Affair” Event Planning and Consulting is a full service Event Planning company specializing in corporate, religious and social events.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Your interviewing a EVENT PLANNER! Say less….

To stay on top of the best sites and sounds in Atlanta for my career, I’m always scouting out great spots to experience. I even have a note in my iPhone labeled “Restaurants” with over 100 places I’ve dined at! Atlanta is rich with culture and community. From the historic Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park to the National Center for Human and Civil Rights—one of my personal favorites—there’s so much to explore. Just a few blocks away, you’ll find the Georgia Aquarium and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which hosts some of the biggest concerts and is home to our Atlanta Falcons. Ponce City Market and The Battery Atlanta, where the ATL Braves play, are also must-visits.

When it comes to dining, you can’t go wrong with Fellini’s Pizza Atlanta for pizza, Bones or Chops Lobster Bar for the best steak, and Slutty Vegan for amazing vegan options. And no trip to Atlanta is complete without a visit to local icons like Waffle House or The Varsity, (where Tyler Perry once worked). The list of incredible spots in Atlanta goes on and on!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What a fantastic time to be a woman!

There are so many incredible individuals—both women and men—who have played a significant role in my complex and beautiful journey of success. I want to celebrate those in my circle who have inspired and encouraged me daily to become the person I want to attract.

A special shout-out goes to my business coach and mentor, Olivia Cream (@embracingonly)! Her profound knowledge and her inspiring, infectious approach to teaching self-worth and building the life you desire have been invaluable. Every time I leave her presence, I feel empowered and rejuvenated. She is, without a doubt, the best investment I’ve made in my life so far! I also want to extend a heartfelt “shout-out” to my Pastor and First Lady, Vincent and Felicia Campbell (@faithcenterinc). Their spiritual leadership over the past three years has been a tremendous blessing. I’ve witnessed so much productive success as a result of their teachings.
